DENTON, Texas-Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Sunday with both the men and women finishing eighth. Two more Cajuns qualified for the NCAA Regional.
The men’s team scored 49 points throughout the meet, while the women ended with 44 points.
For the men, Stacey Fuller qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 52.47 seconds. Fuller placed first in the event to collect 10 points for UL.
Roderick Houston placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles to earn five points for the Cajuns. Houston recorded a time of 10.69 seconds. Houston added another five points to his total with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Houston ran a time of 21.30 seconds to qualify for the NCAA Regional.
Chris Roy collected eight points in the pole vault with his second-place finish. Roy posted a mark of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches. Louis Stevens accrued three points in the 100-meter hurdles. Stevens placed sixth with his time of 15.03 seconds. Casey Comeaux added four points with his fifth-place finish in the javelin throw. Comeaux recorded a mark of 189 feet, 8 inches.
The 4x100-meter relay team placed sixth and earned three points, while the 4x400-meter relay team also placed sixth to add three points to the Cajuns’ total.
For the women, Taryn Simmons earned eight points in the 400-meter hudles with her second-place finish. Simmons posted a time of 1:00.20 seconds. Jasmine Anderson scored five points after she placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 14.59 seconds. She was followed by Quantisha Rambo who earned three points with her sixth place finish.
Paula Parker placed sixth in the 800-meter run to add three points for the Cajuns. Parker recorded a time of 2:22.60. Parker also picked up a point in the 1,500-meter run with an eighth place finish.
The 4X400-meter relay team placed third to earn six points with their time of 3:45.11. The 4x100-meter relay team picked up three points after placing sixth with a time of 47.47 seconds.
Amy Doucet earned six points and a third-place finish in the javelin throw with her mark of 131 feet, 4 inches. Kioloni Readeaux scored four points in the triple jump with her fifth-place finish and mark of 40 feet, 4 3/4 inches.
Western Kentucky won both the men’s and women’s championships. The WKU men scored 144 points, while the women scored 143 points.
The NCAA Regional will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. beginning Friday, May 30.
