As my handle indicates, I don't relate to those fans of the school accross the river... the point being I dont look to fire a coach on a whim... That being said, Coach Bustle has had 6 years now... The best he can show for that period is 6-5... If we lose to Mcneese i think the time has come to begin discussing a change... He has had enough time.. We have excellent facilities... decent fan support... we need to start winning and it does not seem like he is doing the job....
I actually agree with some of this. I agree this is a big game in the minds of a lot of fans. I heard quite a few expressing the same "this will make or break our season" sentiment with regard to the McNeese game after the loss to Ohio on Saturday, so it's not like you're coming out of left field. I'm not sure why some Cajun fans feel like a loss to McNeese is so completely unacceptable. Is it just because they're FCS? Anyone who has followed football in south Louisiana in the last ten years knows that McNeese has a legitimate program with a lot of talent. I'm not digging the rivalry thing since I just don't feel it. I am 37 years old and can't remember at any time having an intense feeling about playing McNeese in anything. Some of the older people in our tailgating group are really excited about the game in what would seem to be a rivalry manner, but I personally don't get it. They're obviously remebering a time that I can't, and I just don't feel it.
That said, McNeese is gonna bring it. Anybody who thinks that they will not...pass me what your smokin'. The Cajuns will have to play a really good game. And I agree with you that they must not, at any cost, fall into the mindset that this game is a gimme. I don't think they could after the huge upset by App State at Michigan. I don't think any FBS program will look at ranked FCS teams the same way again. The crowd will be big and a large number of them are going to be Cowboy fans. They have fantastic fans. One of the most fun experiences I ever had at a college football game was at Cowboy Stadium. They're fans are loud and lively (the cowbells, the Jolie Blonde dance, etc.) I hope lots of Cajun fans show up to help drown them out. One of the things that perturbs me most about games at Cajun Field is the fact that a lot of times you could hear a pin drop. It's not like that at Cowboy Stadium, and their fans are going to be just as loud here as they are at home. They've got a chance to beat an FBS team, and that's a feather in the cap (no matter how crappy the upper division team may or may not be). There's quite a bit on the line for both teams, morale wise, just based on the division classifications.
If the Cajuns don't look past the Cowboys (please, God), I know we can win this game. It will be fun, it will be tough, and it may be unpleasant at points, which is just the way the man upstairs intended college football games to be conducted. So, yeah, I'm drinkin' the kool aid. Spike mine with a little Fenroy and Desormeaux, please.
I disagree that this a make or break game for either team. Whatever the outcome of the game, neither team has played one single conference game yet. And the conference games and possible playoffs for us and bowl games for you are more important than this game. No matter which team loses, their season is not over.
I've told people before the season started that if someone told me we would be lose one of the first two games of the season and I could choose which one we would lose, I'd rather lose the game in Lafayette because a Portland St. win would mean more to us in possible playoffs seedings, etc. if we make the playoffs this season. If we lost that game it would hurt us more than if we lose to the Cajuns. Of course, I would love to win the game this Saturday.
Let's take this game and make it a fun game (and not stick our heads in the sand and try to believe (or wish) that it is not happening like some of the Cajun crowd). I plan on having a good time, before and after the game, and taking a lot of pictures despite what the outcome of the game.
Doc
P.S. I do plan on visiting CajunCharlie and his Krewe.
Is there a reason that you only come around when it appears things aren't going so well for the Cajuns?
Seriously, you weren't here last week when we played better than what the entire universe expected against Carolina.
I wonder, will you ever come here and give credit to the Cajuns where credit is due when it is due?
Or are you just here in an effort to make everyone just a tad more miserable?
Nope.
This game is HUGE for Bustle's future here.
We lose this game, barring a miracle turnaround, this season is lost. Attendance will drop to nothing. Recruiting will go to cr*p again. Next season will be a long goodbye.
6 years my friend. More tools to work with than any other time in our history. People won't put up with losing to McNeese. They just won't.
