Since Prince Fielder left the Milwaukee Brewers after the 2011 season, first base has been a revolving door year after year with the team not able to find a consistent replacement. This year appears to be more of the same except their most consistent offensive talent will be thrown into the mix, Jonathan Lucroy.
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy, fresh off a 2014 breakout season in which he finished fourth in NL MVP voting, is already off to a bad start in 2015.
Lucroy will miss 4-6 weeks because of a "mild" right hamstring strain. He'll miss a chunk spring training, but the Brewers are hopeful he'll be ready for opening day. Lucroy told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he had hamstring issues toward the end of last season and played through it. He didn't expect there would be a problem anymore, since he'd gone through physical therapy, but when he began more intense running drills recently, the injury returned.
Now who am I gonna draft at catcher?
What do you mean, this is strategy here...Eyes on the prize....
Catcher framing quality to date has been measured only in the set of pitches that are not swung upon, whose value is determined by the umpire's call. But there is another player present in the matchup in the person of the batter, and catcher framing also might impact the batter's actions.
The batter suffers when there's a good framer behind the plate, and prospers when there's a poor one. A good framer expands the zone, making marginal pitches more likely to become strikes. Yet the batter is not a wholly passive observer in this process. If the batter behaves optimally, he must adjust his strategy to compensate for the framer's quality, changing the pitches that ought to be swung upon.
As with most advertising campaigns, artistic license was used in the television promo in which Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy is shown getting ready for the 2015 baseball season by taking his whacks in the indoor batting cage at Miller Park.

When you were 4th in all-star voting for the entire league, you better be the face of your franchise.
Proud of Luc and looking forward to an even better 2015.
