In case anyone wants it.
Check it out guys... pretty cool... now that Braun is out for the remainder of the season Lucroy told the manager they needed his bat to stay in the lineup. Love this guy.
Here is a quote from CBS Sports fantasy news feed...
" Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy was starting at first base Wednesday against the Cubs, the first time in his career he has done so. The move was made in an effort to keep his bat in the lineup.
"I went to [manager Ron Roenicke] after Brauny went down," Lucroy told MLB.com. "I said, 'Look, I've got to stay in the lineup. I've got to. So what do I need to do?' We're going to go over there today and do some early work, and basically that's it. I'm just going to try to stop the ball and keep it in front of me. Don't try to be a Gold Glover or anything, just make the routine plays. Keep my bat in the lineup and see what happens."
Though Lucroy was initially hesitant to make the move mid-season, the team's lack of options at first base finally forced his hand. He indicated to reporters that could be open to playing first base more regularly moving forward as well.
"Being realistic, if you're going to screw up, this is a good time to screw up," said Lucroy. "This is a good year to do it because we're kind of out of it anyway. It's a good time to get some experience out there, some game-speed stuff."
Lucroy is third on the team with an .825 OPS on the season, behind only Carlos Gomez and Ryan Braun. "
After a terrible start at the plate I notice he is getting closer to the that 290 average which for a catcher is I think about 3rd best in the majors!!!
That .826 OPS is top 20 in the NL and 3rd for catchers behind Posey and Molina.
Yes Boomer and he's also got 15 HOME RUNS on the season. Good for 2nd most of all catchers in the Majors.
Current leaders at Catcher:
J.P. Arencibia (Blue Jays) 17 HR .219 avg. 343 at bats
Jonathan Lucroy (Brewers) 15 HR .287 avg. 325 at bats
Evan Gattis (Braves) 15 HR .251 avg. 215 at bats
Wilin Rosario (Rockies) 15 HR .278 avg. 317 at bats
5 other catchers with 14 HR
Lucroy is doing more than holding his own... he is performing at the top of his position.
