Thread: Jonathan Lucroy

  1. NFL, NBA, MLB Jonathan Lucroy

(UL's) Jonathan Lucroy spent Monday in Milwaukee, touring Miller Park, the stadium where he hopes to one day play as a major-leaguer.

Two days earlier, on Saturday night, Lucroy said he signed a professional baseball contract including a $340,000 bonus with the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that drafted him in the third round with the 101st overall pick during Thursday's first day of Major League Baseball's amateur draft.

"They [the negotiations] were very easy," Lucroy said. "I told them that I would sign for slot money and that is what I did."

Lucroy said he decided to sign after meeting with Brewers scout Brian Sankey, who had followed him during collegiate career.

Lucroy, 20, said it was time for him to get on with the next phase of his baseball career. After starring at Umatilla High School and at the University of Louisiana, where he just finished his junior season, he said he was ready to begin his career as a pro.

  4. UL Baseball Milwaukee sends Lucroy and other top draft picks to Helena

The Helena Brewers appear to be fully stocked with talent for the upcoming season.

The 2007 roster was released Thursday afternoon and several high draft picks will begin their professional baseball career in the Capital City.

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, second baseman Eric Farris and outfielder Caleb Gindl are all tentatively included on the Helena roster.

That trio is three of the Brewers top four draft picks and there is not much room for players up the chain in the Milwaukee system. Class A West Virginia and Brevard County, Fla. are both the best teams in their respective leagues.

“It’s an embarrassment of riches,” said Helena’s director of broadcasting and media relations Steve Wendt. “We have a jammed system and that is to our benefit because we are getting guys you are not typically seeing in rookie ball.”

Lucroy, who was picked in the third round, is a right handed hitter, hit .350 with 18 home runs for the Louisiana-Lafayette last year.

Lucroy is going to have the same problem as Corey Coles, those farm systems are deep.

  6. UL Baseball Former Umatilla standout's pro career begins with his debut in Pioneer League

Umatilla's Jonathan Lucroy was scheduled to start his career as a professional baseball player Tuesday night, but accolades for his college season at Louisiana-Lafayette continued to pour in.

Lucroy, a catcher who was a third-round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Major League Baseball draft on June 7, is now a member of the Helena (Mont.) Brewers, Milwaukee's rookie-league team in the Pioneer League.

Helena began its season Tuesday night at Missoula, Mont., against the Ospreys, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Already chosen first-team All-Sun Belt Conference team, Lucroy also was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association's/Rawlings Sporting Goods All-America second team, to the third team of Baseball America's All-America team, and he was selected Louisiana's top collegiate hitter by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

UL Baseball Jonathan Lucroy, MiLB Journal and Interview

Jonathan has been asked by Minor League Baseball to write a weekly journal about his experiences in the Hawaii Winter Baseball league. He has to submit a new entry every Sunday and they post it here on Mondays.

It will be updated each Monday.

Oh yeah, that is not a picture of Jonathan. They made a mistake. But, the rest is Jonathan.

Track & Field Re: Jonathan Lucroy, MiLB Player Journal

Well, hopefully he won't have to rough it forever in that brutal Hawaiian League.

He had a great summer and deserves it. He was in the top 10 in batting of all 2007 drafted players.

I read one story where Jonathan was batting a THOUSAND, when I went to get it to post it here I couldn't find it again.

Has anyone seen where he had a perfect batting average (at one point) in Hawai?

ps SunGrasses thanks so much for the link.

Turbine, he had a 1000 avg after the first game. He went 2-2. You can track his, and all, minor leaguers' stats at milb.com. Just type in the last name of the player to view current stats. Visit hawaiiwinterbaseball.com to read the news in Hawaii.

Perfect Game has him in the overall top 10 college players and #2 catcher from the 2007 draft. Now I can't find the batting list of first year players. He was 8th or 9th. He would have led the Appy League.
