KATC and the United Way of Acadiana are handing out more than ten thousand books this week to students at schools across Acadiana.
This is made possible because of Acadiana's generosity during our second annual Day of Literacy in March. Hundreds of new and gently used books were donated to help put a book in students' hands.
Three hundred students at Westside Elementary in Scott now have new books to take home. Tuesday, The United Way, KATC and volunteers handed out books to motivate students to read.
"We want to expose them to reading. Make it fun, make it exciting and really provide them with the opportunity to have those materials available at their leisure," said Keler Williams with the United Way of Acadiana.
