Institute Cadets Sign Pledge to Quit Use of Tobacco and Then Burn Pipes and All Smoking Materials.

Last Saturday night at a meeting of the officers of the corps of Industrial Institute Cadets, a set of resolutions were adopted pledging the officers to give up the use of tobacco altogether and requiring privates to report any officer seen smoking. It was then suggested that all privates be allowed to take the same pledge and very soon every cadet had signed but one. The students have done a wise and manly thing in thus assisting the faculty in maintaining a rule prohibiting tobacco on the grounds. By banishing tobacco from their ranks the cadets have taken a stand on school propriety which gives their institution an enviable position among the higher schools in this section of the country; and the boys will soon find out for themselves the sound judgment and wisdom upon which their action is based. Why anyone should persist in such a pernicious practice is hard to conceive. The students have done right to quit the nasty habit and deserve to be put on the honor roll. The boys meant business for they proceeded at once to make a bonfire of their tobacco pipes and smoking materials.
