Thread: Poo-Poo Broussard

  1. Default Re: James The Jeweler

Well, I can say, as a UL grad (and with a few friends who are also UL grads) that we think the video is funny. We actually had a discussion about this in one of my classes. I think one of the problems in this country today is that everything is now "offensive" (or politcally incorrect).

One of the unique characteristics about the cajun culture is the ability for Cajuns to not take themselves too seriously (in other words, have a sense of humor.) My 64 year old mother constantly laughs at herself for not being able to pronounce english words correctly. Dave Petitjean, Ralph Begnaud, Murray Conque, etc. are just a few examples of this. No one has ever sued any of these men for telling jokes about Cajun people (well, as far as I know.) It's just not in our nature.

And if outsiders really think "The Waterboy" is true and Cajun people actually ride lawnmowers to school and have a pet donkey in their house, then they are the ones who the joke is on.

    And yes, I am Cajun.

You made the comment that intelligent cajun grads wouldn't find this stuff funny. Well, look around dude. Go ahead and google "poo poo broussard" and see what happens. Its everywhere, from ages 13 - 60, people (from around the world - might I add) love this guy. If you ask me, its an accomplishment.
Dude thank you for seeing my point. If someone from USC stumbled upon this board and saw that video what would they think? I caught a bit of SNL the other night and they had a Southerner with a confederate uniform with a mostly drunk six pack of Bud and he was hooting and a hurling and firing off a shotgun at every chance. We that live here know that is not the norm for a Southerner. Those that don't say well there you are. It doesn't belong on a UL board. As far as Poo Boudreaux I would encourage them to tricking Yankees for more money that want a true Cajun experience. Poo could take them duck hunting and let them shoot a bunch of decoys etc.... You seem like a good guy so I'm going to leave with make sure people are laughing with you and not at you.

Well, I grew up between Ossun and Vatican, and my views on this are closer to yours, RCajun. I just don't find this stuff the least bit funny. I'm not offended by it. It is just very lame and does not portray Cajuns positively.

Do you want us to be a regional or national university? YOu may find it funny but I don't. If I was a student from California and was deciding on Tech or UL that video would makeup my mind real quick. Zeebart never graduate from anyplace so he wouldn't know it doesn't belong here.

Why are so many people in this country so damn sensitive. You can't say this because it will offend these people, you can't say that because it will offend these people. Until people stop being so sensitive with everything that is said and done nothing in this country will change.

I don't find the video's funny at all but do they make me mad that they are making fun of my culture, NO!!! These are jokes take them for what they are and move on. There are things done every day that some people will find offensive that others won't, it's part of life, don't take everything so serious and life will be much better.

Well, I actually attended Ossun Elem and know plenty of people that live East and West of HWY 93 that think this is just good ole', good time cajun humor.

And since when did anyone ever suggest that James' videos "represent" UL? Because its on our forum it automically reflects our education, atheletic department, students, and staff? Thats ridiculous. I'm a member of many forums and just because I post an image or video, it doesnt mean it reflects my familys views, or my schools views; ITS MY VIEW! If its funny to Z, then its funny to him; not neccessarily the entire forum. It just so happens that about 95% of us also think its funny.

Thank You! Some crazy hillbilly yelling my lips or chapped? I refuse to call him a Cajun because I yet meet a Cajun like that. Zeebart that posted this crap is not a graduate of any college. It doesn't belong here even if you find it funny. What if a coach or player saw this?

You can take a vote if you like but I find it offensive even thought I'm not Cajun. Go to the USC forums and see if you will find any videos of drunk Southern rednecks with shotguns in hand. If you post it on a school website then it becomes an image of the school although none of these boards are official thank god it is a bad image of UL. If you don't see that then you are just as ignorant as the character of Poo Poo Boudreaux.

WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!! Not everyone takes things as seriously as you do RCAJUN.... if there is a student from "USC" as you like to think looking at our board... I would have to think they are "smart" or "informed" enough to know that this video on YouTube is a JOKE... do you honestly think people believe this is a real portrayal of Cajun living... everyone knows that it is a joke and something to be taken lightly... if a student from California were trying to decide between us and tech and chose tech because of that video... then good let them go to tech and have fun in North Louisiana where there is just so much to do.

Take a deep breath and relax... if that infantile video can offend you than I feel sorry for you....

Well you are entitled to that opinion, but posting something on an unnofficial college forum does NOT mean it promotes what the school or staff promotes. I may be alot of things, but ignorant is not one of them... I'm a Cajun, born and raised my whole life.

And btw, its Poo Poo Broussard..
