That is one of the stupidest and degrading videos I’ve ever seen. Bravo on perpetuating the most negative stereotypes associated with Cajuns. If some of you guys like Poo Boudreaux so much then why don’t you see if he can become a mascot of UL. Then we can truly become the laughing stock of the nation. I doubt these two knuckle heads ever graduated from UL. I have 0% Cajun blood in me but my best friend is 100% Cajun and a UL grad and he was mad as hell when I e-mailed him the link.

    oh shut up..
Its only offensive if you chose to take it that way. I know James personally, and he is a very enlightened individual. One of the smartest people I know. He does this character all in good fun, and we are both from a long line of very simple and country people. Their take on it: Its sayings and stories that will be gone soon because the younger generations have lost touch with older family members. The stereo typical "cajun" existed, get over it. This part of the country has grown leaps and bounds in the past 50 years, and alot of people that live here now, don't know what it was like growing up in Church Point, or Eunice, or Mamou, or Fussion, or Bayou Potage'. Those of us that do, appreciate James' humor.

I think you have to be from around here to even get half of the jokes. My friend from CP showed me this video last week and we couldn't stop laughing. The outakes video is the best, that titanic one is kinda dumb tho. Pooooo, my lips is chap chap!

You and James don’t realize that this is how the rest of the country perceives Cajuns. Putting this junk on you tube just perpetuates these stereotypes. In effect he is taking the Cajun culture back 50 years. When I was growing up if you called someone a Cajun that was fighting words. It took many years to break that perception and your buddy is dragging in back to 50 years. The fact that it is coming from a Cajun makes it just that more ignorant. Your buddy maybe a gentleman and a scholar, I don’t know the man but I don’t find this stuff funny and the people that I sent that link to were stunned.

As far as growing up in rural Acadiana I did. The Cajuns I knew didn’t act that way. I know of nobody in Mamou or Eunice that fits Poo Boudreaux. Similar to the movie “The Waterboy” these videos just keep that stereotype going. I don’t appreciate Zeebart posting this junk to a Ragin Cajun board. It just gives my universities enemies more ammo. He should have posted it on the cult board so others couldn’t see it. Although I’m Cuban I feel pride and privilege in growing up in a Cajun culture. You don’t see Cubans making stupid videos of themselves like this.

My friend grew up in Mamou and he didn't see anything funny about this. What exactly are you laughing at? Ignorance? That is what will make the rest of the country chuckle too. Would you find it so funny if these were LSU grads?

Ok, we can all agree that James' character is a bit exagerated. That being said, I also think we can all agree that NO ONE believes that people this far behind the times exists! This is the very first time that this conversation has even come up concerning James. People from around here enjoy this stuff because either A) they know someone who fits the description or B) they have older family members, and have heard these sayings before. Who cares what the "rest of the country" says?! Are you inbred swine? Are you an ignorant man with huge teeth? Obviously not, so I don't see the problem. Everybody is so quick to get offended over politically incorrectness.

And as far as being called a Cajun and "them being fighting words", as you so eliquantly put it, I have never heard or seen of anyone from around here get offended by that. Maybe being called a coonass, but never a cajun.

I wouldn’t call it politically incorrect. I would call it ethnic suicide. We have all heard Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes and chuckled. Many times they are outwitting others are it just shows two good natured souls that have not caught up to the times. Perhaps that is what your friend was trying to do with this but boy at least from where I’m sitting he has taken it a whole different level. I might be a lot older than you because calling someone a Cajun in the late 60’s and 70’s were fighting words. Nobody even those that were wanted to be associated with the word Cajun because it meant you were ignorant and country. In the late 70’s there was a renaissance and appreciation for the Cajun culture. They were indeed fighting words. Coonass was particularly offensive but in the Cajun nature it has become a badge of honor as you can see them proudly proclaiming it on the bumper stickers and windows of their cars and trucks. I don’t think that to many educated Cajuns would find those videos funny. It really doesn’t belong on an UL board open to public because they wouldn’t have a clue. But then again the guy that posted it isn’t a grad.

Look, I see your point. I honestly do. But like you said, the appreciation for cajun culture as at an all-time high. The accomplishments of people from this state and its colleges are being recognized more than ever before. In my opinion, we as Louisianians have shed that stereotypical "cajun" skin, and have come into our own. Thats why I really don't see these videos as "ethnic suicide".

You made the comment that intelligent cajun grads wouldn't find this stuff funny. Well, look around dude. Go ahead and google "poo poo broussard" and see what happens. Its everywhere, from ages 13 - 60, people (from around the world - might I add) love this guy. If you ask me, its an accomplishment.
