A loss is a loss is a loss. As much as I would like to say last season didn't count due to the strange circumstances, it does in fact count and all I can do is forget about it as quickly as possible. But the answer to why we lost is simple: The biggest mismanagement of talent in all 126 FBS football teams of the 2012 season.
@zephyr; whatever, man. This is your board and your team, so you go with that. But keep in mind I'm under no illusion that your line play will probably be superior to ours. Our woeful pass protection is actually one of our biggest and most focal flaws.
I was just trying to point out that in most cases, an SEC team will have a superior advantage on the line of scrimmage over a SBC team like ourselves but I don't necessarily think that will be true this year and that goes the same for the game against K-State. That is actually going to be our strength of our defense which needs to be drastically improved from last year if we want to win the conference and go to a better bowl game. I think you guys will have to pass the ball effectively against our young secondary early on the soften us up. I know your coach is more old school and will likely try to play a more physical and controlled type of game than you guys are used to but I just don't think there will be as much of an advantage there as some would think. That's all
It will be interesting to see what our DL can do against your OL. Our DL is supposed to be the strength of our team this year too with both returning DEs being in the top 10 of the SEC in sacks last year. We expect our OL to be improved with better coaching this year, but they were so bad last year that it wouldn't surprise me if you lived in our backfield most of the game. Our secondary needs to get a whole lot better than they were last year or Broadway will carve us up.
Betting drives the line. 97% of betters are going to use their knowledge of Arkansas and the SEC (only 4% retaining last year's ULM game memory - so it's irrelevant - as it should be). 32% of that 97% are going to factor UL and Hudspeth into consideration... and of that 32% of 97%, 64% are going to under-estimate Hud and the Cajuns. As for all but the very reasonable Hog fans... they are going to believe whole-heartedly that the Hogs will severely beat us.
As Zephyr pointed out, we... the Cajuns... are very, very capable of keeping both the Arkansas and Kansas State game a contest to the end. What he and I mean is... we will keep both games close. In the past, we "hoped" that sentiment into posts on this forum. Right now, there's no "hope" about it. We will make both games competitive. I firmly believe we will actually win one of the two. I'd never... with the exception of having fun "postulating"... make that "prediction".
I don't expect but 2% of Hog fans to truly consider our game being a "you pick it". 81% are going to smack talk us as the date draws near... either directly or amongst themselves. When we're within 48 hours of the game... better recon will permeate the Fayetteville faithful... and 92% of Hog fans will start the process of cinching their butt sphincter... the claims of dominance will evaporate... and the only contest that matters will take the field of play.
Samford and Southern Miss should be gimmes for Arkansas this year. The other ten are going to be a tooth and nail kind of ordeal. Except, of course, games like Alabama, in which we'll most likely never be in the fight.
I expect that to change in the next couple of years (maybe even next year) and stay competitive in all our games, but this year is what it is.
Obviously, this writer has never seen the hog faithful sit on their hands when we are in their house. We have been a pain in heir side and I do not see anything changing this year. The ball bounces in mysterious ways. Wait, ULM beat these guys last year? Right? Broadway will have a fun time in the old coral. So bet the farm; hide and watch and smile at anyone north of ElDorado tell you that tells you this will be a cakewalk for the hogs. Just ask the folkies in Gainesville.h
They have a new coach, yes, but we have HUD. Never underestimate HUD ....especially when he has a new OD in tow.
