MOBILE, Ala. - To win a conference tournament championship, teams usually need an unheralded performer to step up and become a hero.
UL's baseball team got that performance from Brent Solich Friday night, and now they're one game from adding the Sun Belt Conference tournament title to their regular-season crown.
Solich tossed the gem of the season for a strong Ragin' Cajun pitching staff, firing a complete-game shutout as UL beat South Alabama, 5-0, to reach the championship game.
Solich (5-1) faced only four batters over the minimum and never allowed a Jaguar runner past second base in the Cajuns' first complete-game shutout since Buddy Glass' one-hit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi midway through the 2006 season.
