MOBILE, Ala. - A team left for dead. One that had dead bats for eight innings.
That's what UL's baseball team looked like late Wednesday night in an all-too-familiar position - struggling in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament.
The Ragin' Cajuns needed a hero to come through with a big at-bat. And they got it from ... John Zorich.
Who?
A pitcher, and one that hadn't made an appearance in over a month.
But, as it turned out, all Zorich had to do was stand in the batter's box and take a pitch on the hip from South Alabama reliever Matt Petersen in the bottom of the 10th inning. That brought Jefferies Tatford home from third base, and the Cajuns had escaped with an improbable 3-2 victory over the host Jaguars in Wednesday's final first-round game.
