This was always my biggest complaint about Coach Bustle, and probably why that 7 win season remained elusive. That same "good effort, guys, we'll get 'em next time" attitude was also on full display as McNeese was whipping our asses in our own stadium, bringing laughter from Lafayette all the way West to the Sabine.

I'll wish him well, but absolutely no energy during the moments when he most needed to light a fire in some athletes.

I don't have to. The previous edit should be self-explanatory.But if you don't get it then get this. Those two losses hurt us in recruiting as well as ticket sales. The calculable amount may be argued and is unknown. The fact that it cost UL reputation wise as well as financially is not debatable. Although the willfully and foolishly blind would care to argue. There are those who could argue the sun will rise in the west tomorrow. There are some who will argue a huge meteor might strike the earth tomorrow. The general concensus of good commons sense dictates those things won't happen, but the loss of reputation and dollars did happen when UL bowed down below lowly WKU and McNeese before the whole college football world.

Ok. I don't like to dwell on the past or negative as some do. So, since we've moved on and had a considerable amount of success since he's been gone, I'm glad for the guy. I will always like him for the fact that he took us out of the basement. It may have taken him 9 years to do it, but I think a lot of coaches would have taken just as long.

The thing is Bustle got UL out of the basement in his 4th year.

His mistake was in completely starting over in year 6 after a plateau season in year 5.

Yes - and returned us there for season 9. But it was my first time in 15 years of following the Cajuns that I had positive expectations. He changed the loyal fans perception of our team, made us expect more, and made us give more. Unfortunately, there were some disappointments along the way, but it was one hell of a ride. For that, I believe his time here was valuable.
