NEW ORLEANS - UL's baseball team will not go into next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament on a long winning streak.
The Ragin' Cajuns saw their eight-game victory run go away Saturday afternoon, thanks in part to a 14-hit New Orleans attack and their own miscues. The host Privateers more than took advantage, rolling to a 9-3 win over the Cajuns in the final game of the Sun Belt's regular season.
UNO (33-23, 16-14) also took advantage of UL starter Buddy Glass, hitting for the cycle with its first four batters on the way to a 3-0 lead, and broke things open with a four-run fourth inning as the Cajuns had a pair of eight-game winning streaks snapped.
UL (40-14, 23-7) had won eight straight games, all of them in Sun Belt play, including Thursday (5-4) and Friday (3-1) wins over the Privateers. Those wins also gave the Cajuns eight straight decisions over UNO dating back three seasons.
