What makes this year team so good? Geaux-Cajuns
Good discussion topic.... I have stated before that I think this team has Omaha TALENT.... what remains to be seen is do they have the heart that we saw in the 2000 team...Originally Posted by AboveAverage
That team to coin a phrase refused to lose... I remember Coach Robe relating an incident... the team had started out spectacularly... I think at one time we were 32-3.... something like that... We then went down to Fla Int'l and lost 3... Then to Ark State and lost 2 of 3... and then lost 2 to Whichita State... I think Im right but it was that sort of tailspin... As the story goes after each game the players had some music playing in the locker room... Towards the end of that downward spiral, Nate Nelson walked into the locker room after the game... over to the Sound System and turned it off.... and said "Until we start winning again around here no music.... any questions?"....
Thats leadership... Thats what we shall determine about this team when it's 2-1 in a Super Regional (hopefully) in front of a hostile crowd...
This team has deep pitching... A lot of power and hitters for average... Decent.. not great... fielding.. Like I said Omaha talent in my opinion..
The next 6 weeks are going to be exiciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This story grows legs the more it is told.Originally Posted by IHateLaState
Actually, this is the combination of two different stories.
The music thing happened in 1999 after a home loss (remember, we didn't lose at home in 2000 until the final series.) And, Nate didn't say anything. He just unplugged the music and looked around the clubhouse with that menacing stare he had. Everyone got the message.
The story after the losing streak had to do with running at 6am. It's apretty good story, too.
Jay don't you know never to break up a good story with the facts??? lol... The point is however that the 1999/2000 team had some unique leadership however it was manifested. That is my only concern and I know you don't like to go out on a limb but as a fan I have no problem doing so... I think this team has all the ingredients... deep pitching... power hitting... hitting for average and defense.... to make it to Omaha.... Grunt if you agree Jay and no one will hold you to it......lolOriginally Posted by BirdofParadise
Oh and how about sharing that 6am running story.... Seems similar to this year's Sunday run after A-State...
Excellent. I like your story better than BOP's, anyway. Keep up the good work!Originally Posted by IHateLaState

Agreed but remember the 99 team was only one game away from Omaha.... A break here and there and we can go a year early this timeOriginally Posted by Pirogue
Didnt Nelson hit a homer that was ruled a foul? Could have gone either way?Originally Posted by IHateLaState
