I don't think Strentz is close to ready for the next level. He may get drafted...but he isn't ready.

Kids continue to leave here early because of their "potential"...and to make a few bucks. But then, in most cases, wash out after a year or two of working for minimum wage and traveling by bus from town to town. I always thought the goal was to not only MAKE it to that next level, but to stick and stay there a while.
Stay in college and continue developing so you have a better chance of staying there for more than 18 months. And THEN if you make it up there, you can REALLY make some bucks.
I know that...which is why Fuselier left early. And it is my opinion that he wasn't ready...was leading a hard life...and is now headed home. He made more up front than he might have as a senior...but back to my point. Is the goal to make it to the majors? Or is it to get a few more dollars up front...but then wash out because you weren't ready?
I dont think an extra year in college would make most of those that leave early good enough to make the majors or significantly better in general. I think staying gives them an extra year of college ball that maybe a lot would want back once they're out of the game, but I dont think it all of a sudden makes them a better MLB prospect. And as mentioned, there is a big trade off at times in the money from JR to SR year.
Bingo....If you are signing for less than a couple hundred grand, then you are simply not a prospect. You are just a roster filler there to make up a team so the prospects can play other teams with a few prospects (like Lucroy was) getting ready for the Show. If a roster filler (organizational player) surprisingly develops into a prospect then that's just icing on the cake.
There are 700 MLB jobs and they draft 1500 kids per year. They only need about 100 new players per year in the Show. Nearly all players should finish college, get their degree then play pro ball, if they want to and are asked.
