Thread: UL signees bond at All-Star festivities

  1. UL Softball UL signees bond at All-Star festivities

BATON ROUGE -The LHSCA All-Star Softball Doubleheader at the LSU softball complex Saturday turned into a billboard for the future of the UL Ragin' Cajun program.

UL had the most representatives in the game with six, and notched both Most Valuable Player awards.

For the six girls, though, All-Stars wasn't about individual honors as much as it was becoming teammates before they even arrived in the fall.

The list features two pitchers in All-American candidate Ashley Brignac of John Curtis and Teurlings Catholic's Donna Bourgeois, who was the West squad's MVP.

It includes a pair of speed-burning centerfielders in St. Thomas More's Katey Stanford and Ruston's Katie Smith, who the East squad's MVP.

Rounding out the impressive list is Brignac's high school teammate, Gabby Bridges, at first base and the tall, athletic Christine Orgeron of Mount Carmel in New Orleans.

"This was great,'' Orgeron said. "I love all my UL teammates already.''

Does it get any better than this?! CWS here we come... hopefully we won't have to wait until next year though if we can take care of business in College Station.

I think it would be real cool if some of the girls could make it to College Station just to see the hubbub of a regional tournament. I know that's probably not at the top of their list; but its not too far to go if they had the time, etc. Really nice recruiting class! Reload complete!
