But don't you know that the WHOLE purpose of the Cajuns being in an NCAA Regional is to give the fans a few extra games at a convenient location? God forbid it should be about actually trying to win the thing to get to the CWS.

Here's hoping that the committee brain farts and assigns the Cajuns to the Coppin State regional.

do i detect some sacrasm in reference to the question i posed?

I brought the issue up for the reason i mentioned in the post, that i think we have a better chance of beating a good team if a lot of our fans can make the trip. Not just because they get to see the team play a few more times, but because most people, including students, don't ahve the time nor the funds to go all the way to Wichita to watch baseball.

While fan support is great, games are won on the field, not in the stands.

    I reiterate my last post.

    1) The Cajuns are awarded a host regional
    2) The Cajuns are not awarded a host regional and this fuels a lot of discussion as to why. Facility upgrades are bumped on the priority list and a commitment is made to get Tigue Moore to the level required to host a future regional.

To add to this ... another part of the criteria of hosting will be schools within driving distance (although not taken to the extreme level of the softball committee). It is certainly possible that the Cajuns are the only Louisiana representative in the NCAA Tournament. A Southland team from Louisiana could make the field by winning the conference tournament. Southern could do the same in the SWAC. Louisiana Tech will need to win the WAC Tournament and New Orleans or ULM will need to win the SBC Tournament. But any of these outcomes would be an upset.

There are also few viable alternatives in neighboring states (Texas, Mississippi). Those schools are more likely to be playing in regionals closer to home.

In summary, it may be difficult for the Cajuns to host (assuming they are qualified) if there are no other Louisiana schools in the tournament.

    Ditto.

However, this team is ready to play some serious, regional ball no matter where it is.

Let the poor saps in game 1 try and figure out Farquar, and let Lucroy swing for the fences!

    Let have some fun baby!

    Yes June should be sweet

    Lafayette Regional
    Sd ISR RPI Team
    1 15 13 Louisiana-Lafayette (SBC*)
    4 63 70 Texas-San Antonio (SLC*)

    2 25 46 Oklahoma State (B12)
    3 58 47 LSU (SEC)

Brian, Mark has LSU as a 3 seed. Is their body of work potentially enough to warrant a 3, perhaps giving us some proximity synergy helping our host bid?

I do not have LSU in the field of 64 this week. I will hopefully have my projections ready tonight.

I have Kentucky in over LSU (Mark has LSU in over Kentucky)? Why? If the season ended today, LSU would not qualify for the SEC Tournament. Kentucky would. Also, Kentucky decidedly wins the head-to-head as they took two games over LSU in Baton Rouge and tied the third game. RPI is similar (LSU 47, Kentucky 50). Non-conference RPI is similar (LSU 52, Kentucky 56). Road records are similar (LSU 9-9-1, Kentucky 10-9). Last 10 games are similar (LSU 6-4, Kentucky 5-5). Record against the Top 100 are similar (LSU 19-21-1, Kentucky 13-16-1). LSU has a small edge in the Top 75 (LSU 17-18-1, Kentucky 11-15-1). The two are similar in the Top 50 (LSU 12-14-1, Kentucky 10-12-1). LSU has the better Top 25 (8-7 vs. 6-9). While LSU has some small advantages, it is very significant that Kentucky is 2-0-1 vs. LSU (in Baton Rouge) and is in the SEC Tournament if the season ended today (where LSU is not). I have no doubt that the selection committee would pick Kentucky over LSU. Whether LSU would make it in over someone else is another question. LSU could miss the tournament and possible get an NCAA bid with a 35ish RPI. But I think they miss with a 47.

Also keep in mind that the last five in the tournament (quite possibly more) will likely not make the field of 64 since there will be conference tournament upsets (it never fails). Each school winning an automatic bid (that would not have received an at-large bid) from a multiple bid conference removes an at-large bid from the bubble teams being considered for at-large bids.

#2 All of this said, if LSU makes the field of 64, yes I believe it would increase the possibility that UL could host as it means more candidate teams for the regional.
