Under those projections, the Cajuns would be better off going to Starksville. Brian, enjoyed the visit with you and I hope you guys enjoyed your weekend.

    Yep, at least for now.

When SEBaseball.com comes out with their weekly projections today, you will see that Mark has the Cajuns as a #1 seed. While I do not agree that the selection committee would award the Cajuns a #1 seed over Missouri (I have Missouri as the last #1 seed), Clemson,or Wichita State right now, it is close and fun to discuss.

The fact that we are in the discussion is what is great. Now we need to take care of business.

    1. Win the last 4 games of the season
    2. Win the SBC tournamenet
    3. Let the chips fall where they may

Yes, we do that and it will be hard for the selection committee not to give us a #1 seed. Then a host site becomes interesting and I see two possibilities, both good.

    1) The Cajuns are awarded a host regional
    2) The Cajuns are not awarded a host regional and this fuels a lot of discussion as to why. Facility upgrades are bumped on the priority list and a commitment is made to get Tigue Moore to the level required to host a future regional.

The theoretical question is would we rather be a #1 seed at a place over 1000 miles away, and have to play a strong team on their turf without our fans, or be a two at either A&M or Rice where we would still play a strong team, but at least we could have some fan support. Or same scenario with going to Starkville, although i think we'd have much better support in Houston/College Station than in Starkville.

And Brian, is Rice an option for us being as they would be one of the top 1, 2, or 3 national seeds, and we would be one of the top #2 seeds?

If we can't host, and it looks like that's certain, I'd go to Houston in a heartbeat even if it was to play the national no.2.

I want to go where we have the best chance to win a regional. I don't care where it is.

Yes, it is an option. If the Cajuns are in the discussion for the last #1 slots but fall short, not slotting them in a high national seeded regional will be a consideration (i.e. Rice or Texas). But this is certainly not an absolute and geography is important.

However, my gut tells me that the #2 slot in Houston may be precious for the committee in that they may need to send a Big XII #2 seed to Houston. This is because there will be two Big XII regionals in the state of Texas.

Anyhow, I will have a better idea when I actually go through the exercise of placing the teams into their brackets tonight. Often, little things surface that are not obvious unless you go through that exercise.

But don't you know that the WHOLE purpose of the Cajuns being in an NCAA Regional is to give the fans a few extra games at a convenient location? God forbid it should be about actually trying to win the thing to get to the CWS.

Here's hoping that the committee brain farts and assigns the Cajuns to the Coppin State regional.
