(Generic disclaimer before anyone comments: yes polls have no effect on making the tournament, but after last year who cares, its fun)
Looking at the polls from 3/11, we're receiving votes or on the watchlist of 3/5 of them (other 2 dont have a waiting list). There were 3 other teams in our same position (rec votes/not ranked). Mercer, Texas and San Diego. Mercer and Texas both lost twice this week.
There are no teams ahead of us on average that weren't ranked in at least one of the polls.
I think we have a chance to be Top 30 in the NCBWA poll (2-3 teams may drop out), possibly Top 30 in Collegiate Baseball and possibly even Top 25 of the Perfect Game poll.
Teams that were immediately ahead of us with not the best of weeks:
Miami (#29 NCBWA, CB) - 2-3 to fall to 15-7 (Loss 2x to #1 UNC but won once, 1x to Illinois St)
Clemson (#26 CB) - 2-2 to fall to 11-7 (losses to top 20 Virginia)
Florida Gulf Coast (Ranked in 3/5 polls) - 0-1 to fall to 13-4 (losing to NAIA Ave Maria - really bad loss)
UNLV (Ranked in 4/5 polls) - 2-2 to fall to 15-5 (2x to New Mexico - bad losses)
Cal Poly (Ranked in 4/5 polls) - 2-2 to fall to 15-4 (loss 2x to top 20 Notre Dame)
Arizona (Ranked around 20's in all polls) - 2-3 to fall to 15-8 (swept by top 5 Oregon State)
And this is for sure?????---I think it is great that we stop the BS like our Belt bull and start playing to win for only us----No more mr nice guy---At the Conservative Republican conference a Dem got up and told them that the DEMS play to win and the REPUBS are just too nice---Same with the Cajuns---Let us do everything we can to help our athletic program!!!
I really though we'd maybe break the top 25 but really thought we would be in the top 30. There has to be some reason South Al snuck in before us. It's certainly not their win/loss record.
A least one team got a spot. Maybe another good showing this week will get us in.
I do have to say their record is impressive (17-4) but they've not played the best of schedules either. I know Brian was talking about how we didn't want to play UNO due to the RPI hit, but SoAL actually played them a three game series. I guess winning 1 out of 3 against the College of Charleston worked to help them offset the UNO series, but other than a single midweek game against Southern Miss I don't see any other teams on their schedule that you'd say were baseball powers.
EXACTLY RIGHT Boomer!
This has been an issue for this university since the beginning of the previous administration.
There is no such thing as collective salvation. It is a fantasy born out of a certain ideology that bears no resemblance to reality or the laws of nature.
And, those promoting this do not live in the real world, a trait many in Academia and the political world share.
I in no way was trying to say that USA doesn't deserve what they have, I just think the Cajuns should be garnering more respect.
I am happy for USA, I just wish both USA and UL were in the polls together.
