Ragin Cajun Hockey

Although some of us followed the "defunct and scorned" IceGators, I wanted the Cajun faithful to know that Ragin Cajun hockey is organizing and hoping more had better information. I love the sport and will travel to watch the team.

I hope so. There is already a fan base in Lafayette and it would be a revenue generating sport.

Blackham would be a good venue but they would have to spend the millions for the ice.

I've heard through the grapevine that Blackham will be home to the hockey team. They will use a "temporary" ice setup, which will be significantly cheaper than a permanent one.

I e-mailed Ron Handy and he actually e-mailed me back. He said right now it is the hockeyplex but he was working on Blackham.

What do they think their chances are of actually being able to use BC? As I understand, this is a club team, not an actual men's team, kinda like UL Rugby. In order to make this or rugby or men's soccer, actual NCAA sports, the school would have to add a women's sport to match because of Title IX reasons. Therefore, they wouldn't be much of a revenue generator, but sure would absorb a lot because of having to create the ice and such. The funds wouldn't come from the athletic department, but from an intermurals fund, and i don't know if there is enough money from that fund to start covering all this stuff.

hope it works out for them. I remember some of the issues we always ran into when it came to getting some funds and starting up the UL rugby squad and it was a huge pain in the ass.
