We plan on moving in the December-January time frame, assuming our home is sold. We are going to take some time to tour the Rockies, the Sierras, and the Pacific Northwest before we put our house on the market.

Showing my old age...it is Cliff who is still there. The one who died was named Pat. Or I'm getting him confused with my old milkman. Went to Big John's in Erath...had the seafood platter...it was OK. The catfish was very good. Hard to find non-mud tasting catfish these days. Everyone else who had crawfish said they were good. Place is hard to find...it's way off the beaten path.

Is the Ragin Cajun cafe food truck not beating the streets out there anymore? My uncle who works at Don's was the chef on the food truck for the show they did on the Food Network...they got screwed. Didn't the Ragin Cajun cafe close down? Something about the landlord forcing them from the place?

Best place to eat (without really good food) is the Regatta in Lake Arthur---So Pretty on the water---but some local ex Restauranteurs are talking to the owner and trying to get him not to screw it up---just too nice of a place!!!

Wife and I went last Spring. Nice setup, but food very much left lacking. Won't be going back unless we hear something has changed with the food.

Oh forgot to mention that there is great food just down the street at Knots Landing--the place with the Giant Crawfish or lobster on the outside!!

Went to Chef Roy's tonight, had the shrimp fettucine...was so rich and creamy I could barely eat any. But ______ all if it wasn't good.

I will say that the Downtown location has suffered a bit, due to changes in management, but like I said the right kind of people are back running things now, so stop in if you get a chance. i do stop in every so often. matter of fact, i have eaten at three of their locations--lafayette, of course, hammond, and shreveport. i don't think they are all still open. i love the history of the place, besides the food. my aunt waitressed there for years, so there's my connection, lol. lafayette is plenty big enough for the 2 don's to co-exist successfully. long live don's. both of them!

Wait oysters should be served by the dozen. Why is there only nine half shells on the tray?

Man, I enjoyed reading this thread. Isn't it great to have so many wonderful restaurants in Lafayette. I think Don's seafood gumbo is the best gumbo in the world and also the crawfish bisque in the stuffed crawfish heads are awesome. The seafood salad at Don's Seafood Hut is unbelieveable. I'm surprised no one mentioned Cafe Vermillionville. The last time I was in Lafayette I ate bruch at a place on Pinhook called Jolie's Bistro. Wow; the blackened Drum was great and the biscuit in Taso gravy blew me away. I always loved Riverside. Does anyone remember when it was where the Hilton is now? Dupuy's is one of my favorites for oysters. I understand Blacks closed??? How I miss Lafayette. Mississippi is a culinary desert. There really only two places on the coast to have an above average meal - Mary Mahoneys and Vrazels. Off topic but, I always liked Alesi's Pizza especially their Antipasto salad - simple but good!
