Agree with everything so far. Riverside might get my best overall nod, but based on the OP stating that Prejean's is a bit pricey for him, I'll go with Dupuy's, Shucks, or Crawfish Town USA. The downside is that none of those places are in Lafayette, so designate a driver my friend.

I have to plug Don's Downtown for my uncle's sake. As far down as that place has slid, he is bringing it back to where it used to be.

I like that place. The food is fresh they do fresh fish a bunch of different ways. The shrimp po boy is very good and the prices are reasonable.

I went to Phares once when Shucks was too packed to get a table. I think I got stuffed crab that was pretty good.

I've seen some Dupuy's suggestions in this thread. I'm a big fan of Shucks and I was told that if I liked Shucks, I'd love Dupuy's. Dupuy's was good but I didn't find it to be any better and it was more expensive.

Riverside Inn is really good too, that's a good suggestion.

I'm not a big oyster fan but my girlfriend and her family love the fried oyster poboy from Villager's Cafe in Maurice.

Overall, I'd say Riverside as well. I prefer Shucks over Dupuy's. Phares is excellent, but a little pricey.

I've always thought Crawfish Town was great as they cook the crawfish like I do, less boil and more soak, and no seasoning sprinkled on after. I've eaten Dwight's at a couple of company sponsored boils and they were also great sized and very well seasoned.

The Poor Boy's Riverside Inn has been great since it was originally on the river. My brother and sister ate there when it was still located where the Hilton currently resides (I think). I love the House Salad, which I never seem to be able to finish in a single sitting.

Jumbo lump crabmeat, shrimp, and crawfish tossed on a bed of mixed greens, with cheese, bacon and a
mild dressing then garnished with a selection of pickled vegetables. Large enough to satisfy even the
biggest appetite. (Seafood subject to availability)

Now if your looking for fried shrimp or oysters, you won't find much better than the boiling point.
