I think we were spoiled by last years play. Don't get me wrong, we've played a lot of great teams thus far but we are just simply not as good. They will come around though and, if they get through south Alabama, will dominate the conference again.

We will see something we have not seen for several seasons. A team that will struggle to win against top 25 teams. We will hold our own against SBC teams and maybe take the conference and tournament. They are having a hard time throwing some-one out on a ground ball.
We got one back.
The most surprising thing is how poor the defense is. No excuse for that.
Our starting ss is hurt but the whole team is having trouble with the glove. It's our pitching that really worries me though.
Wallace can't do it all. Not to take anything away from her and ashley but last year we had such a great record in part because we could flat out hit anyone. Remember the Georgia tech game when we were down like 8 to 0 and came back in to finish it out the win? The Kentucky game? It's not happening this year. But, they will win a lot of games. They already have. However, it's not going to as easy as it was last year. Remeber, we've had a few great teams that made runs in the postseason with double digest loses.
We obviously aren't the team we were last year but I didn't expect us to be either. We are still a very good softball team but Texas is definitely better. Very impressed with Texas. This year we may be in the top 30 instead of the top 10. Nothing to be ashamed of at all.
I do question our pitching from the standpoint that we have been spoiled with having Stefni as a coach. Will be interesting to see how we adjust as a team without her.
Kudo's to the Longhorns network. I think they did a great job and were very respectful of us. A couple of the better broadcast if seen in any sport for us. They had there ULL moments but it wasn't mean't to be disrespectful and certainly gave us our due.
So what should we be, proud? Idk about you, but it seemed like everyone here had ideas of grandeur (top 10 team starting the season, hosting regional and super regional, WCWS) and now, possibly sliding out of the Top 25? What happened? We came into this season thinking we were a juggernaut, but then our coach leaves, comes back, and now we're questioning what's wrong with the girls.
I don't understand why we can't get it together against the big schools when I honestly think we have MORE talent this year than last year.
Everyone knows that the polls and selection committees screw us over the most because we're a small school, but I hope they stick with us this year.
I was excited about our hitting earlier in the year. But better pitchers as of late have shut that hitting down. I'm realizing that you can't replace last year's seniors with freshmen...although talented...and expect our ability to score runs to not take a hit...no pun intended.
I expect us to work through this slump and to be a better team overall by year's end. Top ten? Possibly not...but surely a regional team...and then who knows what some angry, motivated Cajun girls can do.
Remember, the freshmen and new comers have not had time to adjust to Mike's swing. Corbello and Landry are having to change their swings completely from the way they swung in high school. Obviously, Landry is making the adjustment quicker than Corbello. Just be patient, it will come. There are many examples of players who Mike turned into animals at the plate. It will be interesting to see the new players swings this weekend and how they are progressing.
Although we haven't had great success against the top pitchers we've seen, we haven't been horrible either. We've had opportunities with base runners but haven't had the critical hit. Nerissa could have probably helped with that over the last week or so as she was just starting to drive the ball, and you can't replace that leadership.
My biggest concern right now is our pitching, which has been inconsistent so far this year. From top to bottom, we've had great innings and horrible innings. I hope conference play will allow us to stabilize the rotation and have the pitchers gain a little confidence, as I don't think you'll rank very high if you can hold the top teams under four or five runs. It's tough to score 5-10 runs against top quality pitching.
Where was Megan and Lana last night? I didn't see them on any of the tv shots that they had of the Cajun dugout. Also, I saw John Ellyson (volunteer pitching coach) in the dugout but it was Robert Verde who came out to visit with Victoria Brown in the 1st game. Is he now a volunteer coach with the team?
