Why did it matter who got the money? Are those guys competing against each other?
Although most of the information Tony speaks about at the Diamond Club Luncheon isn't top secret information, at times he says things that are not necessiarly public knowledge at the time. I don't consider myself special because I am a member, anyone can join as long as they pay their dues just as you and I have. In my opinion it is irresponsible to blurt information on message boards especially before the luncheon is even over. The more this stuff happens the less likely we are to recieve anything more than good old coach speak at these things.
I'm no expert on scoreboard prices. Nor am I one to complain about any gift we get. However, aren't the nicer scoreboards nowadays way more than $375,000? I was kinda hoping our next scoreboard would be a big digital screen. I doubt that is the kind that was donated though. Oh well. It's still free and I'll take it.
Asked about this afterward. I was told the purchase was for the core scoreboard, which is an LED system capable of video replay and continual updating of statistics to the at bat. Obviously, it will also do the standard scoring requirements. The old one had to have the statistics figured outside the system and then enter it into the scoreboard.
The plan is to use the current pipe support system, and brick the pipes in after the season to look more uniform to the park. They will also be adding areas to the outside of the scoreboard for advertising signage, which will not be included in the initial installation. The company we are purchasing it from will use the conference tournament as an opportunity to train staff on the operation, and will be the ones who handle it during the tournament.
It took 1 hour 26 minutes.
What an awesome gift!
