Things that exciting in Tuscaloosa eh?

OK . let's take a look at what the Cajun non-conference opponents did tonight.
Cajun opponents in bold. Rankings are Adjusted RPI.

Illinois (#159) sweeps a doubleheader over Michigan (#30). This also connects the Cajuns to Michigan.

Southern Mississippi (#35) over Marshall (#189)

    Texas-San Antonio (#61) defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (#172)

McNeese State (#171) defeated Central Arkansas (#190)

    Nicholls State (#266) swept a doubleheader over Texas-Arlington (#180)

Lamar (#93) splitting with Southeastern Louisiana (#82) is a wash. The Cajuns have played each opponent twice. Lamar should remain in the Base RPI Top 100.

    Alabama-Birmingham (#154) over Tulane (#71)

Sam Houston (#94) defeated Northwestern State (#162).

So, Cajun non-conference opponents were 9-4 today. Properly weighted, Cajun opponents were 20-7 today. Thus, it was a good day for Cajun opponents . especially Illinois which will get a nice RPI boost after two wins over #30 Michigan. And the Cajuns will have Michigan as an opponents' opponent.

Cajun conference opponents were 3-5 today, however this is because the Cajuns have yet to play New Orleans and Arkansas-Little Rock. While the Troy loss to UALR will hurt some in tomorrow's RPI, it will be a wash once the Cajuns play their three game set against UALR next weekend. UALR should be able to leap into the Top 150 or get very close after today's win.

The bottom line is that I think the Cajuns will stay where they are at #16, but will get a small bump in rating. It will not be enough to catch Arizona State (ahead of the Cajuns by .0038) and no team should catch the Cajuns. Stetson is #17 trailing the Cajuns by .0044. Stetson defeated East Tennessee State (#124) today.

One thing to note of importance . the Cajuns' non-conference RPI is 18. This is a very good non-conference RPI and much like a team's overall RPI, it is considered important by the NCAA Selection Committee. The reason being is that the committee feels that a team cannot control the strength of its conference opponents. But it does have a say in its strength of non-conference opponents via its scheduling practices. Troy has a non-conference RPI of 26.
