You're stubborn as a mule. Those 5 SBC schools are CUSA's pick of the litter from the SBC (and if you come up with an SBC program you think is a better program than the 5 they chose... that program would also take the invite). CUSA also hand picked the WAC teams they wanted. We took what was left over.
If your logic is true (we're at a lateral level with CUSA), the SBC should have an equal shot at picking up CUSA's top 5 programs. Do you think that can happen? Do you think we could recruit a single CUSA program right now to leave CUSA and join the SBC?
You are taking Hud's own comments and the comments by recruits and you're ignoring them. You seem to be caught up in the same trap that Rebel seems to be in (and probably re-enforcing Scott Farmer's misconception of reality). No one is telling you that CUSA is some great powerhouse conference. We are saying that CUSA is perceived, with their member makeup and all other prior and current reputational currency, to be a better conference for a coach like Hud to recruit from. And in addition, they are currently a more attractive, by the majority of fans, conference that would be more interesting for the Cajuns to play ball in than the SBC. Regardless of the fraction of a difference that perception is being fed from... it is nonetheless a fraction that effects us.
Races are won by fractions of a second. But, they still give one guy the gold and the other the silver. They don't give each a blend ratio of medal based on how close they were. In a two man race, one is the "winner" and one is the "loser".
Final take on this... remove UL from the SBC and put us in CUSA... add another FCS program to backfill us in the SBC... would you then agree that CUSA is the better conference? That is our reality. Our departure from the SBC and joining CUSA, makes CUSA clearly the better conference. Remaining in the SBC makes us the lone old crusty 40 year D1A/FBS program hosting a big group of burgeoning pups and a few chronic slugs stuck in neutral.
You can throw out those stats all day long and it doesn't mean squat to those that matter. I think most of us would agree with your logic but we aren't the ones who matter. Its those 18 yr old kids and the coaches that have to do the recruiting and to them, according to their own words, this conference (in the direction it is heading) is a detriment to recruiting. It cost us a couple of recruits this year and it isn't likely to be any better , if not worse, next year.
This is what I'm talking about. What about all of the recruits we won by our awesomeness the last 2 years? I guarantee you it dwarfs the number we lost due to the SBC.
Of all of the schools in BOTH leagues we have a very unique situation here. We rock and the recruits see that. It's a net positive. I don't see the need to cry a river.
I guarantee you that Boise lost a few recruits at the beginning to some MWC schools. They just kept being awesome and growing their brand.
We will do the same regardless of the name of our current conference.
With the exception of Tech, CUSA picked markets. Nothing more, nothing less.
Maybe I missed the memo on those vaunted powerhouses of Charlotte, Old Dominion, and the FU twins. They pick markets. That's how they roll man.
And, I just don't care.
I don't care because I believe we control our destiny, not whether or not we are in the second, third, or fourth ranked non-major conference.
We are better than all of this garbage. We will continue to prove it over and over again.
Or am I wrong? Maybe I just haven't lost enough sleep over the fact that we won't have Middle Tennesse State and Florida International anymore as conference mates. We'll have to play Texas State and Georgia State instead. OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!!!!!
C'mon Man.
You are just manipulating the term market to fit your argument. Markets aren't determined on a state by state basis. A bigger market in a state with a current CUSA team is more valuable, at least according to TV execs then a new market in a less populated state.
Otherwise, there would be no reason to take both Florida schools which in reality almost share the same market. CUSA is taking WKU because of basketball and their other programs.
We aren't in control of shat, Scott farmer is, that's the scary part. We don't Rock, HUD does. When he leaves we will be left in the worst conference in the Countet with an idiot for an AD and will once again suck a s s and return to being the laughing stock of the country and the butt of all football jokes. Which you will be fine with because you are happy being the largest turd in the portapottee. If we can't get in this round, that will mean we can't even back in by default, which is pathetic. All of you defenders are making your argument around one thing, that mark hudspeth will never leave. We all know that isn't true and if we don't get out of this conference...it will happen sooner than we all think, he basically said so in the paper.
Turbine, let's look at the overall. All I would say to that is they compensated by scheduling Home-and-Home with every BCS school on their schedule.
Only exceptions were some ESPN TV games.
From 1996 to 2006(their first BCS Bowl), Boise had 15 BCS opponents.
4 of those were home games.(26%)
From 2003 to 2012, Louisiana had 21 BCS opponents.
2 of those were home games.(10%)
When Boise made their first BCS Bowl their budget was a little over 19 mill.
We are around 17 mill.
So, while we are not exactly the same, we are in similar paths. Granted our budget is slighltly behind them, but when it hits 20 mill in a few years, we very well could be in a BCS Bowl.
