I give this schedule a good ole /
I dislike this schedule very very much. I said last season after the Ark. St. game after our second sunbelt midweek loss on National TV that we would be fools to schedule more of these mid week games. Team just seems off playing on a tuesday night. I liked our schedule until the dates came out. Two tues/wed games and a Thurs. game, no good. That means 4 saturday home games. I know you have to find a way to get on National TV "for recruits" but is it proven that these random tues night games are a tipping point to get a kid? I'm really asking. Because while i was watching the North Texas debacle, i was surfing twitter to see if there was any talk about our game and it was mostly crickets. If we get a win over Kstate or Arkansas i'll feel a lot better about it but after last years performances for these non saturday games you have to figure one of those to be a loss. Hopefully come November I'll be eating my words. JMO
The casual fan will have lost interest in football by November. Fans want to see their teams early in the season when optimism is high. FIU and FAU don't care because no one goes to their games no matter when they are played. But we have fans who will attend. Only 5 home games to begin with and one of them is a Thursday night game. Only 2 home games in September and October is inexcusable. I can live with 5 home games occasionally but for God's sake don't bunch most of my already meager home schedule at the end of the year.
Not an attractive home schedule, no doubt. One of the worst ever in terms of opponents. As far as the dates and times, I don't think it's terrible, just not really good. 4 games home, up to Nov 7 isn't bad. Only the ULM game around Thanksgiving. The Tuesday mid-week games are away and on national TV, at least it doesn't screw up home attendance. Those games on Tuesday really throw off the schedule, and I would rather not have them. The Thursday night game would have been better on a Saturday. Overall schedule, I give it a C- for fan friendliness. For the chance of UL being successful and having a winning record, I'll give it a B+, mainly because this team is going to be good.
Just want to point something out, ESPN scheduled these midweek national tv games.
When they come calling asking if you want to be on national tv, you say yes!
