We were flat across the board. Definitely better than what we showed tonight but not taking anything away from LSU. Solid hitting throughout the lineup. I was more surprised with our lack of run production than I was our pitching. Crowd was packed but probably 90% Cajuns. Just weren't enough tickets that went on sale to the public for LSU fans to get many.
I actually expected the LSU score to be about what it was without something unusual happening. We went into the game with the plan to pitch middle relief or maybe top closers if the game was close. Without it being close, you didn't see the top closers. With a game tomorrow night, and this weekends home series, you have to keep your top pitchers and your top mid-week starter for those games.
The only thing I was dissapointed in was our offense, which I expected to be better. The LSU starter made a couple of good plays with balls hit back up the middle, and kept the ball almost always in the infield. He must have a lot of downward motion on his pitches, as the Cajuns pounded it into the ground more than not. I thought the Cajun hitters came out super agressive, and weren't always swining at the best pitches, but that's what very good pitching can do to you. I wouldn't be surprised it the LSU starter tonight winds up their Sunday starter later in the year.
It would have been nice to hear that roar in the first inning a few more times tonight!
No doubt. Fans were flat from the get go. It's been so long since we had a big game feel at the tigue we forgot how to bring any energy.
It seems that this years team is very aggressive at the plate, maybe too aggressive. We do not take many pitches to work the count and swing at a lot of first pitches. I think if we work the opposing pitcher a bit more, it will help down the road.
Seven extra base hits and seven shutout innings from Cody Glenn lifted LSU to an 11-2 victory over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team here Tuesday evening in front of a sellout crowd of 3,790 at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
