Back to the original topic...I saw both T-Joe Savoie and Dr. Landry at Cajun football games last year, too, before this whole presidential search thing started.
I'm in St. Tammany. I have talked with Dan Hare of the Alumni Assn. to try to get something going here. He seemed somewhat interested, but not exactly what I would call enthusiastic about it. We do have a lot of alums in this parish, many are what I call the "invisible alums" because you often see them but don't know they graduated from UL. I would definitely like to see something et off the ground here.
BATON ROUGE - Some members of the UL faculty are questioning whether the search for a new president has been "rigged."
In a chain of e-mails forwarded to The Daily Advertiser, several faculty members asked how the search committee could have narrowed the field of 38 applicants to five in a two-hour meeting and how the two "insiders" - Commissioner of Higher Education Joe Savoie, a former UL vice president, and current UL Vice President Steve Landry - got in the final five when they didn't apply until the final day.

boo hoo!
Lets see the names of people who are questioning....
This is kinda funny. If the search committee had NOT included any local candidates, I guess the faculty would then have been complaining that "no local people were good enough"?
I would surely HOPE that, if qualified, local candidates with strong ties to the University would get preference over any others. I have seen nothing to make me think that either local candidate lacks the qualifications to lead UL forward.
Considering how long the two local applicants have been around this area and UL, I can EASILY see that only a couple of hours would be needed to determine if they should be in the final cut. Matter of fact, I would think the search committee already knew enough about them BEFORE receiving their applications. (Sounds like some jealous comments coming out of certain faculty members. You'd think they would have thought this through before sending such stupid emails!)
Ever think that the board had debated on the applicants before that 2 hour session.
The thing that sucks for UL is that no matter what they do, someone is going to call the advertiser and _____ and moan about something
