Thread: Eligibility and Semesters

  1. Default Eligibility and Semesters

Now I know how much I hated doing this for a living as part of the gig back then---but I have heard Tech say for years the quarter system allows them to get kids eligible more quickly----Now PIKER comes on and mentions all types of interim sessions for summer and winter Semester breaks---Anybody can fill in the rules and allowances to make up missing hours??? With all these available seems like it kind of breaks down the quarter system---Of course Juluke had his Tech talking points for his NO interview and mentioned this advantage---man I would love to go and recruit against him but he does the thing quite well!!!

Boom, UL has 2 or 3 intersessions. One during December (Winter Intersession), one during May after the end of the Spring and before the Summer semester (May-mester or Spring Intersession), and I can't remember if there is a Summer Intersession at the end of July/early August before the Fall starts. I can only assume, since I don't really know the finer details of how to obtain and maintain eligibility, that as long as a student-athlete completes 24 credit hours in an academic year, to include intersessions, with the madatory minimum GPA required or higher as well as have satisfactory progress towards completing their degree that he or she will be able to maintain or re-obtain eligibility depending on circumstance.

man this really should be a topic of discussion with the eligibility questions----I guess the big question would be the # of hours one could take in these sessions----So if I took 18+18 =36 plus 9 hours in the Summer and inter sessions x 3= 27----If somebody wanted they could get out of UL in a hurry---What about ON-line computer courses----Monroe had half their student body on these and they are wondering why there is nobody at their sporting events!!!! lol

I don't think you can take 9 hours in the intersession. But, I could be wrong.

Boom, an intersession is basically a whole semester crammed into about 3 or 4 weeks. The classes are typically long and there is usually extensive homework every night. 3 hours is plenty. Like Slappy said, I don't think you can do 9 in one intersession. But I do see your initial point which was athletes have plenty of opportunity outside of the traditional spring and fall semesters to get eligible.

If a student were to receive an "incomplete" for a class, could they use the intersessional to catch up?

You can finish the requirements to replace the "I" with an actual grade any time before the withdrawal date of the following major semester( I.e.- incomplete in the fall can have the "I" replaced by withdrawal date of the spring semester). Max enrollment during intersessions is 3 hours.

-Well as usual I hope this is another in the very few advantages that a Tech recruit could use against UL----Hell we will send you to school "YEAR ROUND"----now if we could just find a better social atmosphere---LOL!!!!

On the Quarter System students don't have to take as many classes and most of Tech's football players graduate earlier than the 4 years and some go on to get their masters before it's over

Well we have 6 semesters to get guys eligible---maybe that is why the athletic academic reports are at an all time record for UL as reported at the latest award ceremonies!!! That and HUD kicking ___!!!
