Bridges and Brignac once again lead Patriots attack in the circle and at the plate

SULPHUR - One of the best power hitters in the state: check.

Perhaps the best pitcher in the history of the state: check.

State Championship number five: check-pending.

The prohibitive favorite in Class 2A, the John Curtis Lady Patriots return to Sulphur this weekend looking for their fifth consecutive state championship.

“Each year this is what we shoot for,” John Curtis Head Coach Kristy Hebert said. “We are here to win state championships and not stop this streak that we have going right now.

“This year's squad I believe is just as talented as the past champions we have had. We lost five seniors, but last year we lost just as many seniors as well. I am comfortable with my team and am just as confident in this year's squad as I have ever been with teams of the past. The kids that replaced the seniors we lost have been apart of this program and no what to expect. They have been to the state tournament and been apart of championship teams and they know where the expectation level is.”

That expectation level of winning state championships Hebert said is very important to all of her players.

“That is a big help,” Hebert said. “They all have a lot of pride and they don't want to be the team that sees this streak of consecutive state championships stop. That makes them work harder for not just the team, but themselves. They take a tremendous amount of pride in this streak and they want to continue it.”
