Council puts off new rules for valet parking

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette City-Parish Council has delayed a vote on new regulations for valet parking downtown.

During its meeting Tuesday night, the council put off a decision until March 5 on rules proposed by Lafayette Consolidated Government's Traffic and Transportation Department.

If approved, the ordinance would allow Tony Tramel, traffic and transportation director, to "establish on-street valet parking zones" for downtown establishments so long as the businesses "provide a detailed operations plan" showing the valet parking will not: hurt the traffic flow; use on-street spaces to park vehicles; and interfere with nearby businesses.
