Thread: Protect Higher Ed

    Default Protect Higher Ed

Guys, if you want T-Joe to put more money into athletics, he needs more money on the academic side. Our funding is approaching twice Tech's, this is a chance to put them away.

Higher ed is only about 3% of the state budget. It would be very easy for the state to protect higher ed.

    Here's a petition you can sign: http://signon.org/sign/support-higher-education.fb23

Moveon.org, a hard left wing organization, sponsors this site. This petition will be used to attack Gov. Jindal and Moveon will add you to its mail list. Too political for me....I have been sending personal emails to the governor concerning the lack of higher ED. funding. I belong to no political group and this issue for me rises above politics.

Basinbear, I have given up on Jindal being a fiscal conservative a long time ago. Hell, I have given up on political affiliates as a whole, there is not a single affiliation that stands for what I believe in. But, if this group can get Higher Ed constitutionally protected then we need their help.

These guys are trying to get some reforms put in where Higher Ed and state healthcare would receive funding in revenue-short years before legislative slush funds for local pet projects.

Before constitutionally protecting Higher Ed, other less worthy funds need to have their constitutional protection stripped. Or else, you'll end up with everything protected, whether legit or not, and during low times, the ONLY option left would be to raise taxes. Interesting how our elected officials in Baton Rouge managed to protect almost everything under the sun EXCEPT Higher Ed and healthcare, the two areas of state government that likely have the most impact on LA's citizens.

You have a valid point...I just do not want to end up on a political mailing list ....

I think you can unsubscribe to any emails they would send.

Fun, I agree higer education needs to be funded, but this is not an either or proposition any longer. There is a move to eventually eliminate any future funding for athletics from the state. It will be going away sooner, rather than later. The current push now is to fund athletics externally and make it self sufficient in the near future. One will have little to do with the other soon.

I agree, there are other avenues to approach this through emails. I will not have anything to do ever with Moveon.org.
