DENTON, Texas –Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team narrowly defeated Arkansas-Little 4-3 in first round competition of the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Championships.

Due to the tight struggle and several injury timeouts the match took almost five hours to be completed.

UALR quickly captured the doubles point with wins at positions Nos. 2 and 3. UALR’s All-Conference duo of Edson Abrao and Rain Roigas defeated Jorge Delgado and Janusz Conradi 8-4 at No.2. Dusan Tabak and Arlen Domoney fell to Marco Ballok and German Perez 9-8(6) at No. 3.

In singles action, the match evened when Shaun Ellison downed Abrao 6-3, 6-2 at No.3.

UALR took a 3-1 lead in the match after Ballok defeated Delgado 6-4, 6-2 No. 5 and Juan Carlos Nunez topped Domoney 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Cajuns captured the next two matches. Tabak downed Roigas 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, and Piotrek Banas defeated Dinko Halachev 6-3, 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1.

Conradi, battling through wrist injuries, clinched the win for the Cajuns with a 5-7, 7-6 (9), 6-3 victory over Perez at the No. 4 spot.
