Good or bad idea? I think Trump pushing the USFL to the fall was the killer for the origional league.

Here are the cities that they are looking at (according to wikipedia): Akron, Austin (TX), Birmingham (AL), Columbus (OH), Dallas (...why?), Hartford (CT), Hershey (PA), L.A., Milwaukee, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Portland (OR), Raeligh/Durham, Salt Lake City, and San Antonio.

Little known item of history... the New Orleans Breakers actually played a pre-season game at Cajun Field against the Memphis Showboats in February of 1984. I'd guess there were probably 5,000 people there. All on the grandstand side. Afternoon game.

Dallas? They said they wouldn't setup shop in a NFL city. I would think Louisiana's only shot at a team would be the Lafayette or Baton Rouge area. Shreveport is the place were minor league sports teams always die. Not sure if that would be good news or bad news for the Cajuns. If Lafayette got a team and it was successful it could mean the long awaited upgrades to Cajun Field would happen.

When would you do the upgrades if there were basically year-round football?

Can't believe they are talking LA. Every league drools over that "market" yet very team suffers for attendance there. Too many other things for the regular folks to do and the "beautiful people" in Hollywood don't give a crap about football.

it would be nice to give that crappy league the NFL some competition and help bring the game back to what it used to be!

The USFL and its development partner have identified and secured the first five of these markets and plan to begin construction on stadiums to seat up to 20,000 fans in time for the league’s inaugural season, which is scheduled to kick off in the spring of 2014. The markets include locations in Southern California, Texas, Louisiana and Alabama.

Anytime one of these new leagues opens, it reminds me of the dolt that opens a new restaurant in a location that has had 5 failed restaurants in the last few years, thinking they can defy the odds and make it. Just hold onto your money man. It wont work. I cannot understand the thought process of someone investing in this.

One of the few original USFL teams that made money was the Birmingham franchise (Stallions, I believe) because there was no NFL city close and they did not have to compete for the sports dollar.

I think that was a scrimmage.
