Thread: Boutte's Debut, Leonards' Walkoff Single Highlight Sweep of CMU

  1. Ragin' Cajuns Boutte's Debut, Leonards' Walkoff Single Highlight Sweep of CMU

With the sweep, Louisiana locked up the series victory over Central Michigan and registered the first 3-0 start since the 2010 campaign.

Long, long way from making that proclamation. Checking out the "chips" projected stars on the mound, I was not impressed. Still compared to the 2012 version of the Cajuns, yes this team can hit.

Total agreement there. In the game I attended, a couple of guys had big holes in their swings that need to be corrected before we can make that statement with confidence.

Anybody watching Cajun baseball the last two years should be able to see already that this team...almost top to bottom...is more active and agressive at the plate. They are not leaving the bat on their shoulders. They're confidently driving the ball...bunting guys over...knocking baserunners in.

I'm not saying we'll hit .425 as a team...but it's obvious this isn't anything CLOSE to what we had gotten disappointingly use to the last two or so seasons.

YES EXACTLY! CajunRed is right on here.

The last few years have been SO FRUSTRATING to watch at the plate. I personally can't stand taking pitches early in the count. I FREAKING LOVE Deggs' approach that has taken over this team. The only way you haven't noticed that this team can hit better than years past is if you aren't used to watching the game of baseball.

Sure guys will have "holes" in their swings early on in the season, what CajunRed is pointing out, is that more often than not we are seeing line drives all over the place and in clutch situations to boot. Something that has been non-existent the past 3-4 years.

On a side note, I hope we never wear those Camo jerseys again. Eww.

Get back to me at mid-season, if they are still hitting then I will be a believer. But hitting against CMU early in the season doesn't mean we can hit for the long haul.

Just a little side note about CMU's pitching. The Friday night lefty 88-93 with great off speed. The guy that started the second game on Saturday 92-97 with and 87 mph slider. The Sunday guy was in the 90's as well, and in my opinion was there best pitcher as far as changing speeds goes. CMU starters were good, however there bullpen not so much. Sunday could have defiantly gone better, but the start we got off to this weekend, ill take any day of the week.

I was sitting behind home plate all weekend chatting with our guy and CMU's guy that was on the radar.

So...the hits that we did get were not off some donkey pitchers.

While there is no better place to sit than behind the plate for watching the movement of pitches... it is also fun sitting on the First Base line to watch the speed of each pitch, my season tickets are in the middle section about 3 rows from the top and some of CMU's pitchers really had some nasty off-speed pitches. I love watching the speed changes from the side angle.
