Thread: Do any of our basketball players have a shot at the NBA...

when they graduate? I think Mbamalu, Payton and maybe even Long may get a look. I think Payton would have the best shot though. He is only a sophomore so if he keeps improving, I think he can make it. I haven't seen a player that special in a cajun uniform since Dwayne Mitchell and the rest of that group that played here.

I like Mbamalu, but no way he makes NBA. If Tyren Johnson couldn't crack a lineup being several inches taller, I don't see Mbamalu doing it.

Long is the only one with a shot

Payton has a very real shot. At least according to the GM for the Spurs who came to watch Tony Mitchell.

Funny, I offered that same view a few weeks prior to that and was laughed off the thread, and I get that, I am not a big shot NBA guy, just a local fan.

Still when you look at what he did last year and he was supposed to be in high school, and the level of improvement, his length, it is not a crazy stretch. Not saying he gets drafted, not a lottery projection, but yes I can see him making an NBA team.

I am no NBA scout and I do not play one on TV, but I think if Payton continues to get better I think he will have a shot at playing in the NBA.

Mbamalu was the biggest stretch out of the 3 I listed IMO. But he has very nice range.

Not the way he shoots free throws, a guy that drives to the basket in the nba...has to be able to kill you at the line.

I don't think Mbamalu will make an NBA team but he can make a nice living playing overseas. That guy is turning out to be one of my favorite Cajuns of recent years due to how much he has improved. When he came here, he had trouble making a 5 foot shot and now he is good in all phases of offense. Coaches have helped him but you can tell he has really worked to earn every part of his scholarship.

Rondo doesn't exactly light up the free throw line.

Payton is shooting about 70% from the line this year. Great improvement from last year when he was around 50%. I don't think he missed one last night.
