Thread: Lady Cajuns Softball Attendance

  1. Default Lady Cajuns Softball Attendance

I'm sitting here staring at my phone so I hope I'm not misreading the data.

OK, the NCAA has not posted 2012 or 2011 numbers.

2010: Either UL failed to submit the numbers, or because there was no stadium construction, or for whatever reason, UL is not on the 2010 attendance chart.

2009: UL ranked 16th Nationally in overall attendance at 12,251

That is the total home attendance for the season? Or is that a per game average for the season (that would seem high)? How many games accounts for hat number?

    Total for the (home) season.

I can't look it up right now but if I recall, the numbers UL turned in, it said an average of 500+ and I think that ranked 22nd.

Softball at UL is an untouchable sport.

Not because the Lady Cajuns are so good, with "Title Nine" the same would be true is it were one of the worst.

Because it is a protected sport, every dime required to sustain the sport at the minimum level is (should be) locked into the overall budget before the first extra dime is raised.

For this reason any funds generated by the program should be free to be used to raise the program above the poverty level.

Based on 2009 numbers an average ticket price of $8.25 raises over $100,000 for salaries above and beyond State minimum salaries. Not to be used for basic travel, because travel is a set budget cost.

    Suites are another income stream.

I just read Lafitte and friends raised $55,000 for softball.

If softball's identity were not swallowed up and were to be allowed to have it's own expanded identity, they could sell thousands and thousands of dollars of Lady Cajuns apparel.

Do they get the funds from the sale of apparel now?

    Was there a ticket drive?

    I think . . .

I think the job done on this type of thing is not great. Looking at the attendance listed on the box scores for the 2012 year for 25 of the 29 home regular season games last year (4 didn't list attendance), and assuming that the first game of a doubleheader had the same attendance at the second game (because they listed no attendance for almost all of the first game of a DH) they had an attendance of 27,092, or about 1084 per game. The listed attendance for the three games they played in the regional was 7,833, or an average of 2,611 per game.
