Regardles of the success UL softball has had for many years, FOOTBALL drives the bus in NCAA athletics. Unfortunatly for UL, our football team doesn't generate the same money as an Alabama. Thus, UL Softball will always have to work with less, regardless of on the field succes. Those are the facts, and that is not Farmer's fault! I'm hoping a Conference move is in our future, but moving to CUSA or any other Non-AQ Conference not provide a significant increase in Softball funding. UL Softball was built on a grass roots effort by dedicated individuals both past and present. That is what will continue to be necessary when it comes to Softball. If our present or future coaches don't understand that fact or can't acept it, they shouldn't apply.

I noticed this as well. He didn't mention Farmer once

When you are allowed to have that attitude towards any program wrestling, weightlifting, gymnastics, trampoline or even softball it doesn't take much for the mentality to seep into the football program and you find yourself mired in 40 years of mediocrity.

I don't disagree with most of what you say here. But the game of college softball is NOT what is was 20 years ago. Every major university plays softball now. It is so much harder to compete on a national level in this day and age. The Lotief's were able to keep this team rolling with limited resources and remain a top 25 team year in and year out. If we are satisfied with JUST winning the Sunbelt softball title, then no changes need to take place. If we expect this team to always be a top 25 team, no matter who is coaching, then they better find the resources to sustain top 25 play.

I have no problem with spending as much as we can AFFORD on softball, the coaches and program deserve that. I agree that softball is not what it was 20 years ago. But neither is Softball at UL. This program now has a top 10 facility in the country & Softball was the 1st program at UL to get a facilities upgrade (before football or baseball). With that said, name me one FBS or FCS school that can afford to make Softball its #1 priority? The answer is ZERO, and UL can't be the first.

None of you get it. There is little to no marketing for the rcaf. People need to get off the toilet. 1800 members is pitful in 4 yrs

This is the best comment on here. A professional athletic department would have called a presser..

Mike: I am here today to announce my resignation as the head softball coach at UL. It is the most difficult thing I have ever had to do because I love this program, its fans and what we have built. Most importantly I love these girls and the dedication they have shown to Steph and I and this university. It came down to the fact that I have young kids who are now becoming young adults and I felt the need to be a bigger part of their lives than this job allows... etc etc

Scott: This is a difficult moment for all of us at this university... the dedication that Mike and Steph has shown, the time and sacrificies they have made are beyond imagination and will always be greatly appreciated. The only good news is that Mike has agreed to stay on in an unpaid capacity as assistant coach which will allow him the flexibility to be what he wants more than anything and that is to be a dad. During this time we have agreed to explore with Mike what that means today and in the future. We will give Mike all of the space he needs while he goes through this process. No one knows what the future brings for Mike as a part of this program. As a university we are committed to continuing the great program he and Steph built and will explore our options as far as a head coach for our softball program in the coming months...

But the way it was handled was as amerturish as anything I have ever seen...and to have that hack Stevie P have the first word with Coach Mike is... hell I dont even know how to desribe it

All of these old farts expect people to pick up the product instead of delivering it. Bad business principles!
