The former coach at Cincinnati did the same thing.Originally Posted by Tripple Threat
Let's face it, the "co-head coach" position in this case was a sham. It was a way to get more money for the Hall family while seemingly sacrificing a good assistant coach in Bill Danmuth. I don't blame him for leaving after essentially being demoted. While I truly respect Meredith Hall as a coach, J. Kelley Hall was the head coach. A pure co-head coach situation resides in the softball. I also feel bad for the players who have committed to playing for U.L. and have lost their coach. Don't get me wrong, the fact that the program is in good shape is a testament to the abilities of the Halls. We hopefully can get a quality coach to continue their success because of their success. I wish them nothing but luck in Cincinnati.Originally Posted by CajunTundra
I don't remember exactly how it was worded by the University, but the Hall's were always upfront about their reasoning for the co-head coach positioning. Money was the reason for the co-head coaching. That topic was never talked around. Am I misunderstanding what you mean when you call it a sham?Originally Posted by gsibille

By sham I mean it was never a true co-head coach situation. Everything that was said by all involved at the time was that this was to be completely equal in every way. Let's be honest, J.Kelley Hall was always in charge. I wouldn't have had a problem with it considering the guidelines in place about spouses not working for spouses if it wasn't for Danmuth losing stature in the situation. I asked a former player her thoughts about the Danmuth resignation. Her response was, "Do you blame him (for leaving)?" Again, both of the Hall's are good coaches and deserve a lot of credit for bringing true basketball to U.L. They did a great job, were compensated for it, and moved on to greener pastures. Good for them.Originally Posted by Tripple Threat
OK, I know I'll get blasted, be called a tigger in disguise, etc., but how does the Halls leaving for greener and better pastures differ any what so ever from Yvette G. leaving a few years ago? I'm just wondering if the Halls would have left for LSU or some other school close by, would they be getting the same "we're gonna miss you and we thank you for WHAT YOU DID WHILE YOU WERE HERE and ultimately building a program that was in the dumps into a program that can now compete at the mid-major level." Both built the programs from scratch and brought attention to the school. Both felt it was time to move on to bigger and better things.Originally Posted by Just1More
I'm asking a legitimate question and I'm wondering what the responses will be.
P.S. Yes I am new to the board so lay off of the "just sign up and already starting trouble" replies.
cayenethepepper what a sucky name burn it. You have more disclaimers than a drug ad
If the Halls went to BR there would be no miss you posts there would be nothing to miss the Sadvertiser would cover them more. If they had been here twenty years instead of five I would be ____ed. And if he refused to play his old team I would me madder than a hornet. But that is just me.
I had no problem with Yvette Girouard leaving to coach L.S.U. But, please, please, admit the real reason: money! I don't blame her for, I believe, doubling her salary at the time. She deserved a pay day after building a great program literally from nothing. The problem is always the fact that players and recruits are left behind, though. Unforunately, honor is mostly gone in college athletics. The days of Eddie Robinson are gone. To answer your question, the one major difference in the situation is the fact that the Hall's aren't from the area. Being a native of Acadiana, some felt, not I, that she betrayed her home town by moving down the road.Originally Posted by cayenethepepper
within the last couple weeks there was a thread about how good the lotiefs are. one poster indicated great thanks to stefni and yvette for making the program good. more than one chimed in along the lines of 'love stef, have no use for the other one.' give the halls' depature time to sour folks' opinions of them--either that or the missing factor here that we have with yvette is the 'state' one.Originally Posted by Just1More
