UL Basketball The HALLs are Headed to Cincinnati

Our Co-Head coaches of UL women's basketball are headed to Cincinnati. Good luck, coaches. I wish you the best!

story inserted into CajunRed's post by NewsCopy

UL women’s basketball coach J. Kelley Hall has accepted the position of head coach at the University of Cincinnati after leading the Ragin’ Cajuns to a first-ever berth in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2006-2007.

Hall, who is in Baton Rouge awaiting a flight to Cincinnati for a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT today, confirmed his decision this morning to The Advertiser nearly five years to the day after he was announced as UL’s coach on April 5, 2002.

The Ragin’ Cajuns were 86-62 in Hall’s five years, including three straight winning seasons. They won the Sun Belt Conference Western Division two of the last three years and reached the finals of the Sun Belt Tournament in both of those years, losing to four-time champion Middle Tennessee twice.

They have family there that they're visiting for Easter? If not, I am hoping you are reading your calendar wrong and you think today is the first and not the fourth.

No... I am not kidding. The heading should say HEADED (sorry for the typo)... but just heard Stevie P. announce it on KPEL. They are gone. I wish it was only an April Fools joke.

Did you think they would stay here for the next 20 years?

Funny how your eyes work, I never even realized you misspelled it. I just read 'headed'.

This sucks. Anyone want to put a link in here from right after the season, or at the end of the season, when he wrote that they weren't going anywhere for a long time? He must have gotten his advice from Nick Saban. haha

Oh well, although he said they would stay, I knew they would probably HAVE to take a better offer, Women's CBB coaches don't make a great living, as compared to some other sports, so you got to do right by your family, which is why i really can't blame them. Hope they do well up there.

At least they left with the respect and admiration of their friends, their fans, and the city, and weren't forced to leave by the school.

Precisely. I truly hate to see these 2 good people leave. But, inevitably, most coaches that bring success, are going to draw interest from elsewhere... and unmatchable salaries. There isn't a program out there that isn't subject to the same. UL needs to move up the totem pole and subject ourselves to less of this. That takes more winning by every sports program coupled with more extraordinary fund raising.

On the upside, it took winning and success with UL WBB to help the Halls get attention. We were fortunate to have them. I wish them well.

We cant really lay that on those folks, man. The statement Coach made has been made by every coach in the freakin country at one time or another. Cincinnatti is a dynamic city. Its a Big East school. Thats about as bigtime as you can get. Everthing is on a different level there.

For a split second I was upset with Headragincajun, but now I offer my heartfelt congratulations to he and his wife. I hope that their stay in Lafayette was trememndous, and want them to know they will never be forgotten!

    Thanks Halls, best of luck!

This and the news of UL softball losing to McNeese are the worst things I have ever heard... I should not have waken up this morning.

I echo your sentiments. The Halls brought the program here from dead to pretty darn good. I wish them all the success in the world at Cincy. Now, I just hope that the admin puts enough emphasis on the program to try to make a quality hire as their replacement.
