LAFAYETTE — Offensive success brought some defensive concern for University of Louisiana football coach Rickey Bustle following his team’s annual spring game.

While the first- and second-team offenses combined for 37 points in a contest shortened almost in half by a rainstorm, Bustle left Cajun Field with mixed emotions about the way ULL’s defense finished the spring.

“It’s all about emotion and I’m not too sure if we had enough of that (on Saturday),” said Bustle, who completed his sixth spring training at ULL as the Red team defeated the White 24-23.

The Red (first-team) offense scored three touchdowns, while the second-team White squad scored twice on touchdown passes from senior quarterback Connor Morel to wide receiver Marlin Miller.

In order to balance the scoring, the White team was given a 10-point cushion at the start of the game.

Bustle said the defense, under the direction of new coordinator Kevin Fouquier, played well at the start of the spring when they dominated most of the practices and scrimmages.

“It was good to see so many different people make plays on offense, but on the other hand, the defense can’t give up to many big plays,” said Bustle.
