The team looked good today. Wallace and Fenroy both ran the ball really well. WR's made catches (Don't believe I seen any drops), the reverse play to Cherry was great. Also I love the new formations I seen today, made me happy to see more than the same spread formations. If we keep that up we could be tough offensively. I will have a more indepth report of what I think coming soon :-)
What new formations did you see? Anxious to see what the offense looks like

Formations still similar to last year, trips, spread, shotgun with one back and two, I, etc., but the big thing I saw was the speed that the offense got to the line of scrimmage and was ready to run the next play. Every offensive play by both the Red & White teams was ready to be snapped when the whistle was blown to put the ball in play. I tell you what, if our defense had a hard time getting ready to line up and play, the defenses we play in the fall will be too. Play selection was good, kept the defense off balance most of game. Only concern I had from watching was the coverage by DB's, but hopefully this will get better by opening day.

The new formations was more use of the FB in the wing position out of the single back sets and more double TE's out of the shotgun, more I formations play, and some broken I sets. The spread formations were basicly the same but I think much more time was spent under center than I have seen.

  5. UL Football VW 2007: Vermilion-24 White-23 in Rain shortened game

UL's football staff, fans and players didn't get to see as much as they'd hoped, but they got to see plenty of offense in Saturday's rain-shortened Red-White spring game at Cajun Field.

By the time head coach Rickey Bustle shook the rain from his whistle and called proceedings to a halt midway through the third quarter, UL's first offense had scored on four of five possessions and the backup offense had scored twice operating against the Cajuns' top defense.

"It was exciting to see a lot of different people make plays," Bustle said, "but our secondary gave up some of those plays."

Officially, the Red team captured a 24-23 win thanks to a deflected extra point by defensive tackle LaQuincy Williams on the game's final play. The White unit, made up most of UL's No. 2 offense and defense, had driven 65 yards in a driving rain on the first series of the second half.

Connor Morel's second scoring linkup with Marlin Miller pulled the White team within a point, but the conversion failed in the quagmire that Cajun Field was rapidly becoming.

It's a spread or run & shoot, with three wideouts. You will see two backs in a pro-fomation at times. Both Fenroy and Wallace at times in the same backfield. This offense will use the TE more down the seam and the flats. It's very similar to MT's and ULM's offense. Troy runs a similar version of the same sets at times.

I was sure the refs were going to throw a flag on Fenroy for roughing the defender.

G, can you post a copy of the spring roster at scout or here or both? I couldn't get my hands on one.

Unless there is lightning practice on a wet field. Some of our biggest victories were under water.
