The new formations was more use of the FB in the wing position out of the single back sets and more double TE's out of the shotgun, more I formations play, and some broken I sets. The spread formations were basicly the same but I think much more time was spent under center than I have seen.Originally Posted by b26s
UL's football staff, fans and players didn't get to see as much as they'd hoped, but they got to see plenty of offense in Saturday's rain-shortened Red-White spring game at Cajun Field.
By the time head coach Rickey Bustle shook the rain from his whistle and called proceedings to a halt midway through the third quarter, UL's first offense had scored on four of five possessions and the backup offense had scored twice operating against the Cajuns' top defense.
"It was exciting to see a lot of different people make plays," Bustle said, "but our secondary gave up some of those plays."
Officially, the Red team captured a 24-23 win thanks to a deflected extra point by defensive tackle LaQuincy Williams on the game's final play. The White unit, made up most of UL's No. 2 offense and defense, had driven 65 yards in a driving rain on the first series of the second half.
Connor Morel's second scoring linkup with Marlin Miller pulled the White team within a point, but the conversion failed in the quagmire that Cajun Field was rapidly becoming.

I'm getting a little pumped about this team.
It's a spread or run & shoot, with three wideouts. You will see two backs in a pro-fomation at times. Both Fenroy and Wallace at times in the same backfield. This offense will use the TE more down the seam and the flats. It's very similar to MT's and ULM's offense. Troy runs a similar version of the same sets at times.Originally Posted by b26s
I was sure the refs were going to throw a flag on Fenroy for roughing the defender.Originally Posted by redcajun
G, can you post a copy of the spring roster at scout or here or both? I couldn't get my hands on one.Originally Posted by CajunGuru

Not in the last practice of a Spring session. It is senseless to assume the additional risk of injury presented by slopppy conditions.Originally Posted by CockyCajun
Our last offensive play resulted in a hurt player as he caught the ball and came down hard for the touchdown. I think coach saw that and realized that he had enough. The condition had nothing to do with his slight injury but I think he saw enough.Originally Posted by VObserver
By the way the receiver landed out of bounds but was given the touchdown because he would have come down in bounds had he not been pushed out by the defensive man. I think both players did the smart thing, the defense tried to get a cheap incompletion, and the the receiver never lost his concentration...
Anyone who was at the game, or who watched a few practices...Can you talk about the QB position. Was MD the only one who went with the #1's or did Morel or Hundley get time with the #1's or just the 2's? How did Morel look v. Hundley v. MD? I understand that they are all a bit different in their playing styles, so just curious if we're gonna see MD take 100% of the snaps, or if CM/JH are gonna come in and they are gonna move MD around. Just something we talked about a lot at the end of last season, but nobody mentioned since spring started.Originally Posted by DestinCajun
MD worked only with the 1s. Morel worked only with the 2s. Hundley worked with both.Originally Posted by rhineaux
Mike will be the QB for every snap he isn't hurt. Take that to the bank. Morel IMO is the best passer in the bunch, and is pretty mobile. Hundley is a good thrower, is taller than Morel, but cannot run at all [at least compared with the other two]. Mike passes well enough for the offense we run and is so explosive with his legs that he opens up the running game for the TB's. Not to mention the rushing yards and TD's he will have. I do not believe we will change the system to accomodate Hundley's strengths, as both the QB's we recruited this year are Desormeaux types. Given our style, I'd play Morel before Hundley, but then they aren't paying me the big bucks to make that decision.
