Thread: Time getting short. UL hopes to maximize drills

  1. UL Football Time getting short. UL hopes to maximize drills

UL's football squad doesn't have a lot of time until the end of its spring practice session, so head coach Rickey Bustle is trying to make the best use of the time remaining.

The Cajuns have only three practice days left, one of them being this Saturday's annual Red-White spring game at noon at Cajun Field, and that means the only true practices left are Wednesday's and Friday's drills.

And Bustle doesn't anticipate getting a lot done on Friday, so Wednesday's practice will be important.

"We haven't added a lot in the last couple of practices," he said after Monday's two-hour drills. "We've got all of fall when we'll have more time to get things in. What we're going to try to do is get better in the things we have in."

"One team will have the top offensive unit and the second defensive unit, and the other will include the top defense and the second offense. That will result in the number one units and the number two units facing off on most possessions."

If Red has the #1 offense #2 defense.

    Red 6
    White 24

So you're saying that the #2 offense will put up 24 on the #1 defense, while the #1 offense will score a mere 6 v. the #2 defense? Wouldn't that make the #2 offense and the #2 defenses the better squads, effectively moving them up to the #1 slots?

While I'm talking about it, this is how it should have always been done. None of that team selection crap. this way, the specific teams are till playing along side the same guys they've been working with all spring, and the coaches can really judge how much they've taken from the series of practices.
