Acadaiana area standout Sigur has fantastic debut as Lady Cajuns take 2 on Saturday

In her first collegiate start, former Lafayette High standout Shari Sigur shined in front of her home crowd. Sigur shut down a Western Kentucky team who had nine hits off of Cajuns ace Brittany Cuevas in the first game of Saturday's double header, holding them to only two hits as the Cajuns wrapped up a doubleheader sweep with a 10-1 win in the nightcap Saturday. "I just came out focused and hit my spots," Sigur said. "Coach Lotief told me before the game to just get the signal and hit the spot. That's what I did and the defense played great behind me and had my back on every pitch." The Cajuns (31-7, 6-2) eight-run ruled the Hilltoppers in the fifth 10-1 in the second game. The Cajuns captured the first game 3-2 in a pitching battle. Although the Cajuns only mange three runs in the first game, two of which came off of walks, they were able to warm up in the second game, exploding for 10 runs and four homeruns. Brittany Cuevas injured her ankle Sunday. Shari Sigur came in and pitched two innings to end the game. She was very composed and again, her defense rallied behind her. Don't know how Brittany is. She was helped off the field. I hope she is okay.
