You can be a run oriented offense, and still have a well orchestrated passing attack. A five yard pass that results in a 30 yard gain goes in the books as a 30 yard pass (obviously). So, statistically, it is quite possible to have a "balanced attack". I am not in favor of forcing an aerial assault. But, it sure doesn't hurt to keep a defense honest with a timely toss or two.
I know it seems over-simplified, but Stokely (coach) used to send the faster WR on what appeared to be a deep route, and the guy would run a curl and just stop, just as another receiver would be taking it upfield. It seemed like 50% of the time, the defense would bite and the guy would get behind the coverage. It does require a pump fake by the QB... but it works. I have looked for this under Bustle, but it always seems like the deep route is extremely obvious and involves our "4.3" guy.
