We had defensive scores in a couple of games too. Also your stat of 4 of 5 games over 40 pts should be over 37 points. Troy game was 37. FIU, Tulane, Lamar over 40. Certainly not slow or bad, but there was a lot of inconsistency from Blaine early on that kinda gives the illusion that we werent scoring well.

Now, offensive yardage/production was lower early on. Besides the Florida game, of course, and Broadway's first road start at UNT, the first 3 games were our worst Total Offense games. We got on such a tear at the end of the season that, when compared, it makes the first few games look woeful.

    LU 346
    Troy 389
    OSU 376
    FIU 501
    Tulane 444
    UNT 371
    ASU 450
    ULM 607
    Florida 267
    WKU 582
    USA 538
    FAU 452
    ECU 591
That was a typo... I meant 4 out of 5 "averaged" over 40. USA and FAU won 5 total games combined. They sucked. ULM, once Browning went down, was one of the worst opponents on our schedule. I definitely didn't consider our final stretch to be harder than the opening stretch. We also had a rainy game in that opening stretch... which usually reduces offensive stats. Our defense slumped midseason... because the DC didn't know how to make adjustments and we confronted teams smart enough to exploit it. I think our defense got better when we switched to the 4-3. Broadway, as an individual, quite naturally got better each game. But, my point is that this offense does not "start out slow". Like I said, Hud's first season had quite a few freshman as offensive starters... and Chris was mixing it up with Blaine. I don't think these siutational issues that are atypical would convert into "the Cajuns typically start out slow". We could start out next year blowing people's doors off offensively.

Why are we being so dam negative?! We have a wayy better shot than ULM if you wanna go that route. We will have very good talent to replace (only) 4 starters on offense, and about 5 on defense also. And that talent coming back will only be better. The defense should get better with a new DC. You all saw the last 6 games. We were a dam good football team, and ik Hud, me, and hopefully the rest of Cajun Nation thinks and knows we will be only better next year. Arky, get off the tracks, cause the Cajun train is a comin. LETS EAT THESE PIGS HOW WE LIKE EM, SMOKE EM!

    GEAUX LOUISIANA!!!!

Yeah, I realize our game is quite a ways off, and I'll probably be revisiting this topic after signing day and close to the season. I am just getting preliminary reading from all of our opponents, starting with ULL. Thanks again for the info on your team.

No slow start.... Oklahoma St, it just wasn't our day.

The following two weeks at NT and stAte.. breaking in Broadway.

Points yes, but if you think our offense looked "in gear" for Lamar and Troy....OK. Blaine was also throwing for about 47% in those games and we had numerous drops. We clearly weren't clicking. Our offense didn't get in gear til after the ASU game. You can say we were breaking in Broadway but we still didn't play very well on that end.

Blaine is a naturally amped up guy, and had to be individually coached into settling down. That was purely "situational"... not a trend starter. Last year we started out like a firecracker on offense. 4 of the 5 first games we scored over 40 per game... higher than our season average. If anything, we hit a "mid-season slump" last year (NT and ASU)... and that too... was situational. There is nothing whatsoever about Hud's program or this team that "starts out slow".

If you bring this up again... please have your own hammer handy... and smash your keyboard before you get done. You are far too intelligent of a football guy to keep up a stubborn line of thinking that you were given ample evidence to the contrary.
There is no evidence you speak of. Our offense up until the NT game averaged 412 yards and that was with the big game against FIU. Outside of that, we averaged about 375 and that's against Tulane, Lamar and Troy, neither of which are defensive juggernauts and I'm not even talking about how dismal we looked against OK State. I didn't do the math for the rest of the season but I'd bet we averaged about 460+ in games after FIU and that's with the two debacles against NT and ASU. If you're not seeing that we started "slow" O don't know what to tell you. You can put all the excuses out there but all teams go through these same adjustments to begin the year. I know you see little correlation to pre-Hud but the same was true there as well.

I know you have to certainly expect some time at the beginning of the year to adjust and get on the same page offensively but much of what I talk about includes playing bad teams with bad defenses.

2years 3 different QB 's... Isn't enough evidence to say hud/Johnson offenses start slow.
