It's a good sign when basically your entire starting roster ends up on one of these lists. Can't wait for some glow ball.

College Sports Madness is currently counting up their poll, from #44 to #1. They are at #24 right now with #23 coming tonight. They are a little hard to guess at, but since we have as many All-Americans on their list as any other team (3), with the exception of Tennessee (5), there is a very real possibility we will be listed in their top 10. The NFCA/USA Today & USA Softball/ESPN preseason polls will be coming out this Tuesday.

This may go down as the toughest schedule the Cajuns have ever played. They are playing 31 non-conference games against 20 opponents. 20 of those 31 games are against 12 post season teams from last year, 5 of which were in Super Regionals and 3 in the World Series, including 2 road games against the national runner-up and their first team All-American pitcher. 13 of those non-conference games are at neutral sites (tournaments), 11 are at home [Houston (2), Mississippi Valley State (2), Texas State (2) and Mississippi State (1) the post season teams], and 7 [Oklahoma (2), Texas (2) and Mississippi State (1) post season] on the road. All of the post season teams we are playing will be back in the post season again this year, with the possibility of two others having a chance to join us.

I want to welcome the transfers (Shelbi, Kristin, Leandra & Victoria) along with all the newcomers to the team and Christina Hamilton back from her injury. I'm looking forward to seeing great things from them. I want to say goodbye to those who have departed and wish them the best wherever they land. I'm anxious for February 9 to get here.

Thanks as always for your good softball news and insight! Don't be anxious, be eager! And here's to another wonderful year

May be a bit tough at the beginning of the season with the coaching changes. Regardless, I'll be there sitting right below the pressbox.

I actually don't think the coaching changes will have any visible impact. They've worked with the new assistant coach all fall, and Mike handled the practices and gameday coaching already. Joy was already doing the pitching work. I'd be surprised is Steph isn't around pretty often as a "volunteer" coach.

OK. You might have to re-think that.

I watched a large number of fall practices, and they started last week in the IPF and today outdoors. I watched Sarah Draheim, Nerissa Myers, Sara Corbello, Samantha Walsh, Kelsey Vincent and Shellie Landry launch numerous balls over the fence. I didn't see Briana Cherry or Matte Haak hit today, but I don't think they area going to go into the season losing their abilities. I think our hitting overall this year may be better and deeper than last year. We have a returning starter in Jordan Wallace, and Christina Hamilton looked like a #1 pitcher in the fall. We also have two transfers, one who started at Kansas last year and one who is a RS Freshman from Arkansas who's one of the hardest throwers to come out of Texas in a number of years. Based on past history, I'll take my chances.

You can go by Lamson almost every weekday afternoon as they usually practice from about 3pm to 6pm and check them out yourself.

I didn't see Joy this afternoon but I may have just missed her. I know coach Josh is with the USA National Fastpitch team (http://usasoftball.com/bios.asp?uid=7167) this weekend at a tournament Altamonte Springs FL.

Joy quit last week. She has been replaced by Megan Granger. I am sure that Mike will make the official announcement when he feels the time is right.
